a tips and tricks or "lick sheet" type thread

I thought it might be a good idea to make a thread that consisted of tips or tricks or both that musicians (mainly bass players but any "lick" should be mentioned) commonly use when all else fails or something that gets them by. Hopefully I'll start the ball rolling......

Something I like to use when playing a major song. Its basically a fill that I can use to approach any note that forms a major chord within the scale. For example 1, 4, and 5 notes in the major scale form major chords. Anyway the fill is

A--------5--7---5
E--5--7---------

transpose it into any key of course and it will work. If the song was in D major you could use the tab listed above as a fill to get back to the root from the 5th. You could also just throw it in whenever you need to get back to the root regardless of whether you're on the fifth or not.

I'll post more when I get more time
