Anything similar to the Tremulant EP?
The Tremulant EP is a bit different in sound compared to The Mars Volta's two full length albums. It's hard to really put your finger on what the difference is, but you know what I'm talking about.
Now, I don't find this different sound better or worse than the sound of De-Loused and Frances The Mute, but it's a special sound. And since the EP is so short, I'm wondering if there are any other bands that sound anything like it. Get your recommendations on, people. |

I would like to help but I really struggle when trying to find similar artists to TMV. I thought the Tremulant EP sounded closest to ATDI out of all of their material.

The only band that vaguely reminds me of The Mars Volta is Dredg.
And ATD-I of course. But i've never heard the Tremulant EP, to be honest. |

Tremulant EP is the only Mars Volta CD I actually enjoy. The closest I would this to TMV would be Dredg. I can't really recommend an album other than A Catch Without Arms - Dredg, maybe someone else can be of better help.

It's different, but check Jaga Jazzists "What We Must".
It blows every Mars Volta album out of the water. |

Nice alive-keeping of the thread guys. I'm already diggin' Dredg, but I'll look into some of the other suggested bands. I was expecting maybe more suggestions on some older prog-rock bands, but since the Tremulant sound is rather unique, I'm happy for any suggestions. I'll also check out Jaga Jazzist, it seems fresh.

i remember listening to king crimson's "in the court of the crimson king" and being reminded of Frances The Mute... I know it's not tremulant, but seeing as how Robert Fripp has been cited by the guitarist as being a heavy influence on his playing, it would make sense that the bands are 'similar'
