Fightstar
After hearing their much touted Palahnuik's Laughter single and downloading (legally of course) their EP I can say that this is a surprisingly new band. Admittedly they still keep the same feel that is all too popular in bands such as Finch at the moment, but I found that I enjoyed some of their songs very much.
Being at heart a fan of emo (Rites of Spring, Saepia etc) I was pleasently surprised to hear a very nice use of dynamics in Fightstar's songs. Palahnuik's Laughter for example often sinks from crushing riffs to quiet etheral sections very fast. Furthermore, having seen them live now I can say that Fightstar can pull this effect off on stage too. Added bonus I haven't yet heard much of their forthcoming album aside from the Great Unification part 1 which is currently on Scuzz (a UK music channel). I wasn't as impressed with it as I was Amytheist (sp? I haven't got the song on me atm) and some of the others, but it seems to be a well put together song none-the-less. Hopefully the rest of the album will live up to the strength of their EP anyway. To conclude, I just wanted to know what you guys think of Fightstar. While not amazing IMO, they are certainly enjoyable to listen to and the frontman has a good powerful voice. |

I don't mind them. "Palahniuk's Laughter" is a brilliant song, however hard it is to spell properly. But I found most of the material on their EP to be lacking, and they just sound like a bit of a mess from that. I haven't heard the new song, I might have to check it out if I can |

The main difference with their new song is that the production is much better. The original EP, single and music video were all done off the band's own finances (well earning shitloads off Busted has to go somewhere doesn't it), however, as they pretty much did most of their production in a garage with protools it is fairly shoddy in some places. Their video only looks as good as it is because their drummer had some job in animations or something before then.
I actually prefered Amethyst and the others on the EP over Palahnuik's laughter tbh. No this should not belong in R & M to the person above, Fighstar's music is clearly influenced by bands like Finch and the like. The guitars in Palahnuik's laughter seem very heavy... I should like to know how they achieved that- I'm assuming chorus pedals and stuff but I don't know really. |

I feel sorry for Charlie in a way.
I mean ok he was in Busted, but he left 'cause he preffered working with Fighstar, something he enjoyed. People hate him because he was a member of Busted, but he left 'cause he didn't want to make that music anymore and move on to something he loves doing, which is rock music. It seems that peoplehate him for making a decision for the better. |

People don't hate him as much now. They don't have to now that other one made that Son Of Dork band or whatever it is.

I like Fightstar, they wern't too bad at Leeds. At least Charlies tried to change to another brand of music, and is experimenting musically. Son of Dork is just Busted again.

I heard Son of a Dork's song 'Ticket out of Loserville' or whatever.
I turned the T.V off straight away. |

I have their EP, but I've never really had a chance to listen to it. Maybe I will later tonight.

I think they are okay. Their songs have their strong points, but they are pretty generic. Also, their songs don't seem complete. They all have strong points, but then they have weak points as well.
