So his biggest fault is that he makes quality films and people like him for it?

Yeah, he was just pretty much jerkin' himself off for that movie. However, I think the first half was great, and should've ended there.

great first half, dragged a bit in the middle, but then severely picked up once again for the last twenty minutes or so

Agreed. Rodriguez pissed all over him in that Grindhouse set.

On a related note, has anyone else watched the bonus content from the Once Upon a Time in Mexico DVD about Rodriguez's house/studio and found themselves to be rather envious?

the action sequences were good and Russell's character had potential

the dialogue was abysmal, however

I don't remember the dialogue being bad, just the "realistic" talky bullpoop didn't vibe with the Grindhouse set-up. Needed more chintz, less grrl-power.

That being said, I haven't seen Grindhouse since theaters and I thought Death Proof > Planet Terror but the whole experience was great. Wouldn't want to watch them again.

idk what was realistic about it, just seemed to be endless chatter about sex and pop culture references from what I remember. It felt incredibly contrived and insulting to the viewer, it's one thing to put your own personal stamp on a film but when its comprised entirely of poorly articulated "homages" used primarily as a vehicle to whore your nerdy obsessions with films nobody cares about and the fact you have a foot fetish well, that just kind of grinds my gears right

lets hope your art isn't also characterised by expressing your overbearing love it or hate it personality at every chance through the script and injecting obnoxious praise for all your personal self interests into the dialogue expecting the audience to eat that **** up

i'd be looking for my honesty elsewhere

Saying it was the point and forgiving it is like forgiving someone for taking a dump on my head whilst I am asleep because it was the artists intention.

Sure maybe later i'll have a good laugh at that later on but I know I won't get that with Death Proof even in an ironic sense because it strives to be nothing more but an imitation of a cult b-grade movie, and fails by being tedious and dull for almost its entire duration.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus - 7/10. i liked it but it was hard to watch at times. the acting was good all around. didnt like Jude Law's part though. the girl that played Valentina was stunning in the scene on the gondula (sp?) with Collin Farrell

Yeah, the scene where the Aussie chick rides the hood and Kurt Russell chases them in his car, it could've been shaved by a few minutes to keep the suspense. Eventually you knew that Kurt Russell was gonna **** it up and then get pwned by grrl power.

I liked Planet Terror more because it had the point of over-the-top and completely unrealistic sequences. I mean a chick with an m16a2 for a leg, which became a mini-gun in the end, that was just so stupid it was awesome.

First time seeing it since the cinema. Beautifully shot, and Tom Cruise really shined. Jamie Foxx wasn't too shabby either. I'm normally not a big fan of his but he held his own in this one. It's no Heat, but I'm definitely glad I purchased it out of nowhere.
