Hartke HA2500

Hartke HA2500 – This is a great little bass head, for a nice cheap price. I got mine for AUD$585

Features:
This bass head has a lot of features, that are basically the same as the higher end model, the HA3500. It has two different pre-amps, solid state, and a tube pre-amp. You can choose how much of each pre-amp you want to use. It also has a built in compression. I’ve never had much experience with compressors but this one does a nice job. It then has a selectable 10 band graphic equalizer, which is very very versatile. As well as the graphic equalizer it also has a small 2 band equalizer, with two options, high pass, and low pass. With the push of a button you can choose whether to use the graphic and 2 band equalizer together, or just the 2 band equalizer.

Sound:
This amp has a great sound, and an even better sound if you have a bass to justify it with. It is VERY versatile and with a few tweaks you should be able to get the sound you want.

Value:
This is a GREAT amp for the money. It is rackmountable and is VERY strong. This amp was made to take a beating. It has a lot of power with 250w at 4 ohms and according to the Hartke site, around 180w into 8 ohms. I was looking into Behringer, but for a little bit more money I found this beauty and I am very happy with it.

Overall:
This is a brilliant head for the price. If you are looking for a great head on a budget, I defiantly recommend checking the Hartke HA2500 out.

9/10

Just a couple of notes...

This is a new model, essentially upgraded from the HA2000, which followed the same form as the HA3500, but with a couple fewer features and a 200 watt power-section.

The HA2500 is a new Hartke model (to go along with the 5500 and 3500a). Apart from a few design changes and the smaller power-section, the only difference between this and the old 3500 are the lack of a compressor LED and a missing balanced XLR out.

In my opinion, a second-hand 3500 is likely to come cheaper than a first hand 2500, and because will give you the XLR out for plugging into the PA and 100 extra watts of headroom, it is a better choice.

Once again I'd recommend trying to get a good condition HA3500. The extra headroom and XLR out are actually very useful, and right now on eBay there's a 3500 AND a Furman Power Conditioner bidding at $300.

Or you can go on www.avatarspeakers.com and get a cab and a HA3500 head for around $550-650 USD.
