Ibanez BTB405QM

Updated Pic, obviously the one on the left.

Controls From left to right
Top Row: Stack Mid Cut/boost(top), Mid Freq(bottom), Blend, Volume
Bottom Row: Treble Cut/boost, Bass Cut/Boost

Paid: ~600$ USD(New)
35" Scale

Specs (Off of Ibanez website)

  • BTB5 Neck
  • 5pc. Maple/ Walnut Neck Material
  • Basswood w/Quilted Maple top Body
  • 24/Medium frets
  • Rosewood Finger Board
  • Mono- Rail II bridge
  • IBZ DFR-N5 Neck PU
  • IBZ DFR-B5 Bridge PU
  • Pearl Dot Inlay
  • SN : Hardware Color
  • Vari-Mid 3B (18V)

Mine came in a Transparent Blue Finish.

Playability: 5

For me, this bass plays wonderful. Fast fingering is a breeze, slapping and popping is easily done (wide string spacing), and finger style is very easy. One of the things i like most about this bass is the tight B string. It never flops on me, except of course when if i would down tune, but i stay standard most of the time.

Electronics/Pickups: 4

If there was one more thing id want out of this bass, it would be growl. I can't seem to get a good low growling sound out of this bass. Other than that, I love being able to not touch my amp to adjust my EQ (18v actice circuit).

Tone: 4

Still what brings it down is the growl. Other than that ive gotten tones for my rock band, school jazz band, district jazz band, and classic rock band. Very nice tone.

Overall: 4.5/5

Very nice bass, well worth the money in my opinion. Only think i find wrong iis the growl, but that can always be fixed .

The thing I dislike about cheaper/midrange Ibanez is that they use cheap body woods, and what gives them good tone (which they certainly have) is the electronics. If they are to be changed for whatever reason, the bass will most probably sound crap.

Great review .

Only problem i have with the basswood, is that it likes dents. Other then that it doesnt really bother me much. Also the quilt on the maple stands out much more, especially in the sunlight.

Yeah its a soft wood. I dunno why people go on about crap tone.....Music Man bongo's have incredible tone and they're basswood bodies.

Personally i use these settings on my bass to get the cleanest and nicest tone.

Bass and Treble knobs 5/10 (on the notch) these can be adjusted and the tone will still stay nice if the other knobs are as follows.

Volume full. derrr.

Pick up knob fully clockwise 10/10

Mid knob - (bottom) fully counter-clockwise

Mid freq - (top) on the notch and turned back the slightest. about 4.8/10

Then start adjusting your head and bass and treble knobs on the bass to get the right eq. If the pickup knobs and the mid control knobs are there, i find i get the most clarity and a really thick tone out of it.

Congrats on the bass. They rule. Im thinking of getting a sixer of the prestige line.

Cheers.

I just bought the same bass yesterday in Black.
I need to re-string it. Cheapy string he put on already broke.
