Spector Q5 Pro
Body Wood Basswood(center) Quilted Maple(top/bottom)
Scale 35" Neck/Body Joint Bolt-On # of Frets 24 Pickups 2 EMG-HZ Controls Volume, Volume, Treble, Bass Bridge Spector Tuners Spector Playability This bass plays very well. It's the main thing that attracted me to the bass over a few others I was looking at while on the market. The string spacing is very nice for slapping. My friend who is a strict slapper and hates 5 strings always wants to play this thing because of how it plays. The neck is very comfortable. It has an inward curve, which I find comfortable. The action is nice and low. I've only had to tweak the bridge once, but only to get rid of fret buzzing. Fretting is very quick and very fluid. With the 35" neck, the B string is not floppy at all. Playing in general is really fast. Also, with the 35" neck and the unique bridge (that I haven't seen on any other bass except Spectors) the sustian is infinite. It can hold a note out for over 15 seconds. Best sustain ever heard. 4/5 Tone The tone on this bass is very distinct. The mixture of Basswood and Quilted Maple gives you very deep low notes and high notes with a somewhat twangy "orange" sound (only way I can describe it). With some tweaks, you can go from a heavy slap tone, to a deep warm finger style, to a crisp picking tone, and there are many other unique sounds this bass can make. Sometimes the uniqueness is a little too much, but easily tweaked. Also, it's hard to find amps that compliment to tone the way I want it too, but I'm very picky when it comes to tone. 4/5 Electronics I really like the controls on the bass. Wit the way I use it, I use the bridge and neck volumes to get my main tone, and use the bass and treble for fine tuning. My only problem is that the input jack cracks a lot with certian chords. 3/5 Overall In the end, this is a very one-of-a-kind bass. I don't think I will ever find another bass that plays, or sounds like this one. Everyone who has ever played it has loved it. Like I said, I chose this bass over quite a few other ones. I will never get rid of this bass because I will never find one like it. If you get one, you are a lucky man/woman 4.5/5 ![]() ![]() |

Great review! Pics are huge though lol! I recently got to try the 4 string out and it was great, it was very much like you described it.

Ive got the 4 string
(see my 4 string review)man... im jealous of your orangeness! I picked the black (ordered it, so didnt get to see what it looked like in real life until it arrived) and i wish i picked the blue or orange ![]() haha! Its funny, it never occurred to me that the bass has a quilted maple top! I just thought that was the cool grain of basswood! ![]() (oh, and i dont know about yours, but mine only has a quilted maple top. basswood back and centre) |
