Schecter Stiletto Studio 5
Make: Schecter
Model: Stiletto Studio 5 Year: 2002-2004 (Not quite sure) Price: (Paid) 450$ (New) 650$ Body Wood:Mahogany with Bubinga top Neck: Maple and Walnut with Rosewood fingerboard (24 frett, 35' scale, Neckthru) Pickups: EMG HZ passive pickups with EMG 3 band EQ Bridge: Dimond Custom Pics: ![]() ![]() ![]() Quality: 9.5/10 This bass is built like a tank. The neck is rock solid, the bridge doesn't budge a bit, and the tuners stay right were they were put. The neck is smooth as a babys bottem and is very fast and easy to play. The strings are perfectly spaced (I don't know the spacing, sorry). It's great for slap, tap and finger style. The body seems rock solid, for sadly this bass has met the floor a couple of times due to a bad strap and has never dinged/scratched. The body weighs a bit on the heavier side of things. Sound: 9/10 You can get most any tone imaginable. The three band EQ alows for the perfect tweak here and there. You can dial in a bleeding trebbly tone to a growling dog in seconds. The bass it self is a rather bright, not to say you can't dial in a warm bassy tone, for this thing can do it too! Electronics: 10/10 The electronics on this are very good. Every thing is very nice and neat in it's cavern. The inside of the cover has a proctective layer of insulation for less interferance. All the wires are insulated and wraped acourdingly to how they go to gether. It run's off two 9v batterys for improved head room. Overall: 8.75/10 Over all this bass is wonderfull. It is a joy to play and is very easy on the hands. It's a tad on the heavier side, and will wear on you fast if your jumping around. To me it's worth every penny I paid. |

Nice review! Im stuck on whether to get a custom 4 or a studio 4... Do you know if there is much of a difference in the custom and the studio necks?

customs have a 6 bolt on neck. Elites and Studios are neckthru. Im pretty sure the string spacing is the same.
Edit:to jamie dunce. |

The only actual difference that would be appernt is a 6 bolt compared to a neckthru like said above. But IMPO the Custom's necks are the fastest out of all the Stiletto serries. They both have off set dots and multi laminate maple/walnut necks. The only down side that I see to the Custom's neck over the Studio is it's sustain is not quite as good as the studio, I don't know if this is because it's a neckthru, but it I think it's mostly contributed to the different bridge it has.
To Jamie. |

I recently bought a Elite-4 and I couldn't be happier. I played both the Custom and Elite models and liked the Elite because it was heavier and felt more durable. I've not tried the Studio but I'm sure its quite nice.
Whichever you choose jamie_dunce, you'll be more then happy. The EMG-HZ's are very nice and Schecter makes quality basses. |

SoundControl are the only UK importers of Schecter. However, they do not get to choose what stock they order. Schecter simply send what they make based on a pretty guestimated demand (once every 4 months).
Those sent are then distributed around the UK stores, so theres a chance they have one elsewhere, so ask. |

I honestly think this is an incredibly poor review of this bass.

-How's the action on it? Are there any dead notes anywhere?
-Is the fretwork any good? I've played too many $500+ Ibanez in new condition with undressed frets that cut into your fingers -You mentioned the weight, but is it balanced? Will the headstock dive towards the floor if you're not paying attention to it? -How's the Korean manufacturing...? Any visible glue seams anywhere? |

My action is very low, no noticable dead notes. The fretwork looks good to me. It's balanced very poorly, and the headstock dive is terrible. The manufacturing is still very good, but the plastic covers on the back were scratched up somehow when I bought it. |

Ah, much thanks. I was curious because I'm entirely paying off the Stiletto Elite 5 that I have on layaway at Guitar Center today. I loved the way it looked and played right away so it was a no-brainer of a purchase for me. Constant headstock dipping though, eh? Oh well. I'm used to it...got a Thunderbird bass that got me into the habit of always paying attention.
