Strange Drum School in Japan
Note: This is NOT an advertisement.
http://www.warabi.ne.jp/~ks-music/44.html This is a drumming school in Japan, really expensive, and their methods are mostly Moeller, and the bass drum techniques are unconventional. Their main focus is using the least amount of muscle possible, and other stuff. Buddy Rich, Dave Weckl, Dennis Chambers, are among the drummers mentioned by them as examples. I was wondering what you guys think of this, because I think it's really weird and stuff. There are a bunch of videos there to give you an idea of what they're teaching. As I said earlier, this is NOT an advertisement. |

Yeah that was some fancy footwork, at first i thought he must only be 8th noting it because 260bpm is insane but i went back and listened and it soundly like mostly 16ths even though they were sloppy it's still impressive. Do you know how much exactly it would cost to go? I'm not planning on going but that's kind of an interesting thing to know

It's about $570 for the initial lesson and signing up and stuff, and $275/mo for the regular course, one 130 minute lesson per month, or $550/mo for the master course, two 130 minute lessons per month (master is intended for pros or those who are seriously going to become pros).

dude, just click/save as on one of those pictures.
that's quite interesting. most of the stuff seems to be pretty mathematical, like position of pedals and that orange thing on the pedal to use the fullest of the rebound. |

Asian drummers make me giggle.
The course would be all fine and dandy, but wouldn't you have to speak Japanese? I have a hard time with English, man. |

The orange thing on the pedal is a tangerine, and they're showing how they can get lots of power without smashing the tangerine on the footboard.
It's all pretty advanced stuff, like the Buddy Rich or Dennis Chambers stroke methods, or the finger control methods listed here. |

He puts a tangerine on the pedal to show how their technique doesn't involve pressing hard on the pedal. Then at the end they show how standard technique would have squashed the tangerine in no time.

I go to this school for 1 and a half year
I'm Japanese, and I go to this drum school for 1 and a half year.
Is there any question? (I'm not good at English. Please don't mind unusual English phrase.) I find that this is a very old thread. Is there anyone who reads this thread? |

I read this thread a long time ago. Do you think you could explain his double bass method?

Didn't get squished. Then he tried playing the pedal with his (foot) technique and it didn't get squashed. Then he tried using the 'heavy metal uber double basser joey um jordisun' technique and it squashed instantly.

From what I can see, some of the pictures show the muscle groups and potential energy motion that you would have to use to create the most leverage/quickest stroke with the least amount of kinetic energy used...
...interesting stuff...wish it was in english... |
