The ULTIMATE Recommendations Thread

..or not. We've had countless threads like this in the past but I figured it's time for a new one. In here you suggest and/or ask for bands based on your preferences and people will (hopefully) try to help out as soon as they can.

Some rules you should follow:

-consult the band list, first and foremost
-don't barrage your post with 51543524626099 generic uber obscure bands that no-one will care about
-suggest only 5 bands max at a time, no need to name-drop
-include their sub-genre when you mention them
-put a brief description of the bands you're suggesting if possible, linkage to sites is helpful too
-yousendits have their own thread
-NO ADVERTISING
-it's ok to ask for bands in other genres, as long as it's permissible (no "if you liek FFAF chek out MCR" plz)

enjoy.

oh well, guess i'll use this thread instead.

im looking for bands which describe a kind of bitter sweet music. like "i love the world because its so beauitful and i love all my friends but it sucks because life is moving so quickly at the age of 18"

--------------
im going to recommend (although i guess lots of people know bout these already)
1) neutral milk hotel - lo fi folkish, lovely
2) the decemberists - kinda like nmh, but i think much more acessible than them
3) belle and sebastian - british popish mellow romanticised kinda music
4) super furry animals - happy rocky kinda experimental band
5) my bloody valentine - great 90's beautiful white noise band

kinda mixed bunch, but their my top 5 bands at the moment.

edit: i think we're suppose to ask for some bands, but nobody's asked anything yet plus i think you cant go wrong with the above few.

So are we supposed to just randomly recommend any band we want? Or are we supposed to wait for people to ask for suggestions, and then reply to them?

You can recommend any band you want, but as I said include a short description with it and their sub-genre.

righto:

1. Amplifier (Post-rock) - Mega-riffs, heaviness and plain amazing. Alos, their singer sings with a quite a mellow voice so it makes the guitar, bass and drumwork sound ever mightier.

2. Muse (Neo-classical, operatic rock) - Probably already well known to most people but they are just a fantastic band. Riffage, piano, almost classical music at times with a great singer. Also, a brilliant live band.

3. The Secret Machines (Not sure) - A newish band that have never really broken into the mainstream. Their debut album is very good and is really worth a listen if you like long, structured rock songs.

Hello, anyone wish to recommend me some alt rock along the lines of QOTSA? I'm in the mood for that sort of sound currently.

I'd suggest Nebula, although they're more stoner rock. Still, good band.

Could anyone recommend me some good/the best Swans and Melvins albums?

^ try White Light From the Mouth of Infinity. I've only head some songs but they're good stuff. And you can't go wrong with Houdini.

I'll start adding some more bands in the list, but I won't spoil everything for you guys.

65 DaysofStatic - A bit more bite than your usual post-rock band.

bah, I'll add a couple more.

dEUS - Alt/Indie rock, I really like them.

Orange Goblin - Stoner Rock, really great band who don't seem to have many fans.

Murder by Death - Alt/Indie rock?! I don't know what genre they are, maybe someone else can classify them, but they are good.
