Best amp?
What's the keyboardist's choice for an amplifier?

I don't recommend an amp for a keyboard.

That's wha tthe PA is for. The keyboard player in my last band had a 18 channel EV/Tapco mixer into a Crown power Amp into 2 EV SX100 cabs. So he just ended up doing the rough mix on vocals and keys on his mixer when we practiced.
If we did a gig with no PA support, we all used his rig. If we had support, he only used his mixer for the keys and sent a single stereo pair to the house mixer in stead of two channels per keyboard. Pro: It's a great way to work everything, very versatile Con: Expensive as all get out, seriously. He probably had $6500 in his rig. Not so scary, you say? This was in 1988 dollars. |
