fretless Action

i just defreted my squire p-bass and put medium gauge flatwounds on it. i have the action as low as it will go(saddles all the way down and took a little relief from the neck), but frrets 1-12 dont growl like higher up on the fingerboard. can anybody help me?

Well it could be the bass in general or the inotation.

I'm not exacty sure, I kinda understand what your saying but I dont now if you can fix it. Now thinking about it, it could just be the bass.

I am not sure what you mean by "growl". I have a Sterling fretless and the nut is really low. The action is about as low as it can go. Right now I have small gauge pressure wound strings on it but I am going to get some thicker strings to get more of a "meaty" sound.

The 'growl' is actually mwahhh, a sound associated with playing up oon the higher 'frets' of a fretless

When you defret you need to lower the nut. You want the strings to be almost touching the fingerboard at the nut.
