The Official Monkey Island thread.
Seeing as this game is a classic, I made a thread about it.
In here, we discuss the greatness of Monkey Island, tell each other that we fight like dairy farmers and generally enjoy talking about the games. But try not to turn this into an insult duel thread, not yet anyway I've been playing Monkey Island since I was really young, I remember getting The Secret Of...for christmas one year and being really excited. It took me a good few years to complete it, and ever since I've been able to complete it with ease. I got LeChucks Revenge a few years ago on double disc (with the Secret Of) for the pc. That took me ages to complete, but it's still a great game. I haven't played The Curse of..or Escape From..as much, I own a copy of The Curse, but have never really got into it much, then I hated played Escape From...the kinda ruined the series with it. Anyways, discuss everything and anything about Monkey Island in here ![]() Last edited by Brew; 11-05-2004 at 02:38 PM. |

I can remember playing The Secret of Monkey Island a long time back (those were the days.) I could never figure out how to even get off that first **** island - what was it? Melee Island? - until I used a strategy guide, and that must have been after a couple years of owning it. I remember always using the wrong insults in the duels too. I have yet to play any of the others.

Melee island was fantastic in Monkey 1, they butchered it in Monkey 4 though.
It always took ages to get the ship off Stan, he was an annoying twat at times. |

Actually, now that I think of it I did play a bit of the one that's on the consoles, whichever that was. I sucked at that one too, though...

^Escape made it to the Ps2.
Its good to see the old characters in Escape, but I really didn't like it at all. Did anyone else manage to ''kill'' Guybrush in the first game? You could make him walk off a cliff on Monkey Island and fall into a rubber tree. |

That sounds familiar, I don't remember a whole lot about the second half of the game though, after getting on Monkey Island. The big bald guy on Melee with the 'talking' tattoo sticks out in my mind for some reason. And of course there's Grog, with it's battery acid and whatever else for ingredients. I should find this game and play through it again sometime..

GROG! GROG! GROG!
Meathook (dude with talking tattoo's) was fun, he got mad when you called him Cannonball Head in the first game. And he's scared of his parrot. |

I HATE Monkey Island. Horrible, tacky, boring games.

I was *just* about to make this thread, but you beat me to it.
It's my favourite series of all time, I love all the games, though Monkey Kombat loses major points for the fourth game. These are the only games I play on a regular basis. Killing Guybrush pwns. You can also kill him if you keep in underwater for too long (I think he states he can hold his breath for 17 minutes? The figure might be a bit off) The characters mention a 5-game contract a few times. Any news of this fifth game, or do they just say that to make us sad? |

He can hold his breath for 10minutes.
There's been talk of getting Ron Gilbert back in to write a 5th game, but the odds of it happening are incredibly slim, I read somewhere that he hated what they did to Monkey Island with the 3rd and 4th games. Random quote : ''Ahoy there fancy pants''. |

Well, if he hated it, he should come back and make things right again.

He couldn't, I think he sold the rights to making the games to the respective companies.

monkey island 1 and 2 were the best games ever (behind deus ex 1). and they have to make a 5th one, casue guybrush quite clearly states in one of the games (4th i think) that he has an unbreakable 5 game contract. the best character was the segull from loom

Monkey island is immensely fun....especially the star wars parody ending in "Le Chuck's Revenge"
LeChuck :- "Guybrush......I.....am your brother" |
