Good yet cheapish synths

I'm into the nin/tool kind of stuff, could anyone recommend a synth that would cover my tastes?

A synth that my friend uses is a Yamaha S03 its pretty cheap these days I believe it to be very good I dunno if hes using default sounds on his or did he put them on I know that it has some good sound effects running through it.
