The Official Leftover Crack/Choking Victim Thread

This is my first time doing a band profile. I decided to do this because of my love of the band, and I know most of their history.

It started in the squats of New York City. Where 4 talented individuals got together to play hard, fast ska-punk. Leftover Crack was formed from the remains of Choking Victim after the band decided to call it quits. Singer, guitarist, and song writer, the Stza (aka Sturgen in some cases) put out an open call for more members for his new band. He collected members from F-Minus, Blindsided, and Suicidal Tendencies, along with Choking Victim member Alec Mohamed. Together they recorded the demo 7" for Bankshot! called "Rock the 40oz" They later contributed "Crack City Rockers" to the Hellcat compilation, Give 'Em the Boot II. Hellcat owner, Tim Armstrong asked the boys to join the Hellcat family. Leftover Crack agreed to this, as long as bar codes were kept off their albums. The lineup of Leftover Crack was solidified when Alec agreed to play bass full time, taking on the name Alec Crack. Stza also brought in Ara from Agent 99 to play drums. They began recording their first album in May of 2001. The album was originally set to be called "Shoot the Kids at School" but was rejected by the folks at Hellcat. It was released May 22, 2001 titled Mediocre Generica. The album explored the many talents of Leftover Crack, not only their ska influence, but also a softer rockabilly/psychobilly sound and plain hardcore on some tracks. The album was a success for the band. They went on tour to promote the album, but seemed to go into hiding after their album had been out for a year. Most members broke off to form side projects such as Morning Glory, INDK, and American Distress. All these bands becoming part of the Crack Rock Steady 7.

In early 2004, Leftover Crack joined by other members from the Crack Rock Steady 7 released a split album with So Cal punks, F-Minus titled "Baby Jesus Sliced up in the Manger". As the side bands continued to prosper many fans wondered what would become of Leftover Crack. Many fans watched as the Leftover Crack website stayed un-updated, but one site created by a loyal fan called ****worldtrade.com chronicled all the news it could about the Crack team and its side projects. It was announced in early 2004 that Leftover Crack were recording a new album called **** World Trade and it would be released on Jello Biafra's label, Alternative Tentacles. The Crack fans rejoiced at the thought of the bringing together of their favorite band on the largest independent label. As the album was recorded an un-mastered copy was leaked, by Alec himself, so the fans could sneak a peak at what to come. Many were disappointed by it, many loved it. A lot weren't sure to think of their favorite band, but watched ****worldtrade.com longingly to find more news about the new album. And if a Crack fan had succeed in wandering back over to leftovercrack.com they found the site revamped and now run by Tzra, the same web master who ran ****worldtrade.com. There was more rejoice. As more news came, it found that legendary record producer and member of Big Black, Steve Albini would be helping Leftover Crack with the producing their new album. Anyone who knew Albini's work knew this would be an album to go down in history. As recording finished and wait began for the new album, AT's website released 3 tracks to the public, and the fans were astonished by how far the band had come. Soon the whole album had leaked and news was everywhere, it was the greatest thing Leftover Crack had made yet. This wonderful album was released officially to the public on August 31, 2004. With the amazing CD came provocative album art picturing the tumbling World Trade Center, showing that Leftover Crack weren't your normal New Yorkers, crying about 9/11, but embracing that reasons of why it happened.
Following the release of the **** World Trade album, Leftover Crack seemingly disappeared from public view. Sometimes they would make an appearance, must most times staying in hiding. Soon, Choking Victim reunions began, playing the odd show throughout the year, mainly in New York. Leftover Crack played a few shows as well. After loosing a drummer the band seemed like it was going to break up, this seemed even more possible after bassist Alec got married and moved to the west coast, but as far as fans know, they have not broken up. They recently released a 4-way split 7” with friends Morning Glory, F-Minus and Bent Outta Shape called The Kids Are Gonna Pay.

Indeed they do. I can only find one copy at the store. I got the only one of Mediocre Generica and the only one of FWT. I never have found Rock the 40oz or any CV albums.

I saw leftover crack a few weeks ago and they were way better than I thought they would be. I am just starting to get into them now, and this band profile was quite useful. Good post.

ok, im new to this site, but i know a little about LoC too. The Stzza and Alec first had a band in highschool called No Commercial Value who played Nazi White Trash, and so did CV and now its LoC's turn. I *think* that Alec quit unfortunatly and now im pretty sure that anti-flags bassist has replaced him which i am pretty bummed about. I think LoC will get softer and also lose most if not all of the ska influence because of the new bassist. a great great band but i still think CV is better because they were more ska and their albums werent as over produced like the LoC ones. Favorite song ---> 5 Finger Discount!!! hope this helped guys!

If the Anti-Flag bassist did replace Alec (which is possible, I heard he moved to Cali with his girlfriend), it will only be for this tour. Afterwards they are calling it quits, as The Stza is moving to South Africa, or so he says. I think if they get together to record again, Alec will be there.
