Keyboard/Synth Recommendation

Hi, I'm in a Ska/Punk band, and collectively as a band we are thinking of adding keys. I have almost no expierence with this stuff, except for that my mom plays piano. I would like some suggestions on what kind of keyboard or synth would work well with the type of music we play. I also would like sounds similiar to Dream Theatre, Children of Bodom, and other metal bands for myself, but needs to suit are bands music as well. Price isn't a concern since we can just save up for it together, but I don't want something thats gunna cost anything over $1000. Thanks

Are you going to sequence or keep it "live"?

Hmm, never thought of that. I'm guessing we'll do it live so timing doesn't get screwed up and stuff.

well a keyboard that would be good for you would be a strong sounding organ because I find a lot of ska bands use that.
I also used an organ while with a ska band for a short time but if you look up reggae bands they had a backing of a organ so maybe thats your best bet

I'm gonna go with my classic response: get a KORG!

However... just a LITTLE bit more than $1000....

So I'd go with a casio wk3000, it'd be well within your price range (only about £300 over here, so I suppose about $500?), and if you're looking for ska/punk but ALSO want DT and Bodom sounds, it's mint in the way that it has some really nice jazz and reed organ samples, but it has a few features of the higher end synths and keys, and also you can download and transfer more samples from the net

Sorry to post at your thread, headmut... I just joined so my posting privileges are minimal at this point.
Does anyone have an opinion on the Roland Fantom X8?
I originally wanted the XV-88 but it's out of production... There was a sound I particularly liked, Grand Strings or something... Gonna download it off the Roland website.
