as i understand from watching the sopranos, some of the lower level guys might cut deals and implicate him down the line.

not sure how much emphasis fifa places on omerta, though

Happy for Sevilla. It was a great game too. 5 La Liga teams in the CL next year.

so america is the only country with the infrastructure and interest to take on the 2018 wc from Russia. now theres an angle

and no one wants to go to qatar particularly the usa.

seems to me the corrupt are attacking the corrupted.

Or maybe FIFA is actually corrupt and US authorities have evidence of a crime?

Loretta Lynch goes after FIFA

Lynch seems like an excellent Attorney General, and I am a far-right figure.

i think the issue is that they're up against a 5-year statute of limitations requirement, if charges related to the Qatar/Russia bidding process are brought

not to say there aren't other tournaments organized via shady dealings or that sepp hasn't probably done something illegal in the past week or so, ofc

that IRS guy's joke about the "world cup of fraud" and "issuing FIFA a red card" was the most american soccer kitsch thing ever

aren't the bidding investigations and the racketeering ones handled by different countries? i've held off reading about it because it's all a bit loud right now. it's like when calciopoli broke - just wait a bit until it all quietens down and then the truth starts to come out a bit more.

that was all before twitter thought so idk

i'm not sure whether the series of US-ordered arrests are eventually going to encompass both the world cup bidding as well as the other stuff (i haven't read the indictments, but the fact that only new-world officials have been indicted so far suggests they're focusing on CONMEBOL/CONCACAF stuff for the time being), but i read some suggestion that that's the direction the US might be headed

yeah, but there's a swiss-led investigation as well, focusing specifically on the 2018 and 2022 bids. they've forbidden a bunch of people from leaving zurich or something.

but yeah, the fbi one is the big one, the swiss one is the one that could effect the future world cups directly.

swiss authorities are investigating the russia and qatar world cup bidding processes, the us indictments relate to "24 years of corruption" up until the 2010 world cup. that said, the attorney general said that more indictments are coming so maybe it's wider than that.

Apparently Jack Warner has threatened to take Sepp with him. Would've never had him pegged as the Frankie Pentangeli in all of this. Maybe Sepp can find his long lost brother from Sicily and bring him to a trial to abide by omerta.

i think i mentioned that i was in south africa leading up to the world cup down there. and some of the stories of how fifa managed their business to their own benefit were incredible. and people had blatter pegged bang in the middle of it all.

you could change it to lol fbi and lol america using instruments of the state and the beautiful game to agitate the russians and make some of the most stupid comments ever at a press conference. and get invovled directly in fifa's presidential vote which probably means blatter stays in power and the corruption continues instead of further effort to undermine him. unless of course they are going to walk on stage at the vote and arrest blatter on charges also.

eurgh what the hell

apparently people are complaining more about women being on fifa 16 than they are about people racketeering and 1000s dying making stadiums in qatar.

loada shit.

it is fairly clear now that a minimum of 133 football federations in the world are corrupt

it is also clear that the single vote per country helps despots and dicktators

and smokey, don't be naive to think that the entire effort is not coordinated.
