SoundProofing a Rehearsal Room??

Whats up guys,
Need some advice on soundproofing a room. The challenge is that it use to be a Buisness which means theres alot of echo. Its a sizeable place(44 feet width/9 feet high) which means we'll be spending some cash to soundproof it. The problem is that theres a restaurant next door but theres is a hallway that the divided the two which will contain some sound. The foam is too expensive so were looking into buying Carpet Installation padding which Ive used before and worked. Do u guys have any other suggestions on material, ways to go about it,etc?

try hanging heavy carpet/blankets on the walls, about an inch or so away from the wall.

don't use egg cartons. thats usually used to make the acoustics in a room better, not for soundproofing. ( although tons of poeple on this forum will say to use them)

do a search through the forums or the web to look for articles or threads about soundproofing. maybe you'll find something a bit more helpful.

thick insulation, carpets, duvets, thick foam, thick rubber. Those should be ok for soundproofing.

Egg cartons = acoustics
maybe soundproof and put egg boxes on the walls build it up it would probably take around 1000 just get everyone in the band to bring their empty ones when they get one.
