Help Me Find Gear for My Band

the dillema, what kinda gear should i be looking at for the following?

im looking for a studio/live setup for my band, by studio/live i mean a mixer and speaker and **** that i can run into my computer to do recording as well as run live gigs...

The Band:

Bassist - 1 amp / no vox

Guitarist - 2 amps / no vox

Singer - 1 vox

Drummer - will have a rather large kit when he can afford it, 2 bass, 3 mounted toms, 2 floor toms, snare, and i dont know how many cymbals...

ive been told an 8 channel mixer would work but maybe we should look into a 16 for protection?

anyhoot, what mixers/brands and speakers do you all suggest, i hear shure mics are good, and give me suggestions that are good enough to fill a gymnasium size room, we need some power... we play metal... uh and our budget is like $2000... (we have to save weeee)
