Need help in finding my groove

Ok, Ive pretty much got the guitar playing teqhnique down.

Now I really want to start writing songs!
I can write songs, but its just not the kind of music I like.
I wanna know how to write the kind of music that I love!

I like the kinda music that has real effect and emotion in it.
Not pop, or Heavy Metal.

Heres some bands i like.

Pearl Jam
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Sevendust
AFI
Bush
Disturbed

And some old bands like Boston and Steve Miller.

I just really want to start writing songs ya know?
Can someone point me in the write direction!?!

My advice would be to learn to play some songs by these bands and get to know some of the styles they use.
But at the same time I wouldn't try to sound too much like someone else and try to find your own way which might be just as good and original. You don't want to sounds too much like a copier of other bands.

its not what you play its how you play it

Credence Clearwater has some of the simplest music there is but it is hard to grasp at first because of the way they play it.

I tend to come up with things as inspiration strikes. As soon as you hear a certain riff or chord you like, keep hammering it out until it sounds like a good song. Example - I found some jazz chords and came up with a cool mellow song
E---------7--7---7------7
B---------7--7---7------9
G---------8--8---8------8
D---------8-------8-----9
A---------7-------7---7-7
E---7----7-----7-7
Keep learning songs, as you learn what others have done, take their examples and make it your own
