Spike Island

7/10

Decent enough film, the music is by far the best thing about it.

I didn't see Zero Dark Thirty past the first half hour. I wound up having to leave and I never had much interest in finishing it.

I watched 12 Years a Slave today. Solid 4/5. I preferred shame overall but this was exceptionally well done. Give Chiwetel Ejiofor the Oscar. I need to watch Hunger.

I thought the movie was pretty good all in all. Just the closing scene for me.

The Counselor

Dumb. Ridley Scott was not the right choice to direct Cormac McCarthy's script.

Sherlock Holmes: Game Of Shadows

i liked it just was well as the first. if they make another, and i am sure they will, it could use some freshening. i found myself going back a moment sometimes, to catch what was going on in the movie. the villain, and his motives, were often vague to me. he didn't make much sense. but i guess he was a "madman" sort of guy. guy ritchie's direction is over stylized imo but the film moves along well nonetheless 3 /4

World War Z

Fairly useless zombie movie with brad pit. it's been two weeks since watching it and i am already having a hard time remembering it. like many movies in this genre it has plot holes you can drive a truck through but can forgive because the movie delivers on its own terms. it scares you or makes you squirm or laugh or hold your breath. this movie does none of that while ripping off Aliens, 28 Days Later, and even the video game Left For Dead. i'm sure these are supposed to be "homages" and it was amusing to see people fighting zombies with a fire ax, baseball bat, and crowbar. but the rest of the movie is so lame

how lame? one entire city in the world is SAFE. they have built a wall, and inside people sing and dance and live in peace wtf. and outside the city tens of thousands of zombies are trying to get in. are they bombing them? nah. nor are they setting them on fire or even spitting on them? no,they wait until zombies breach the wall to start killing them, although armed to the teeth and with an air force. and these are the jews. they'd have already blown 'em all to shit, let alone let them build a "zombie ladder" (i kid you not) outside and get over it. lots of dumb, nonsense stuff like that in this movie. rent if bored and want some cheap scares and unintended laughs 2/4

World War Z was alright. Enjoyed the book a lot more.

I've been watching Doctor Who for the first time (2005 one). 5 seasons in, so good.

Stop Making Sense

Film of a Talking Heads show, really entertaining; David Byrne has some serious moves. I'd never listened to them but still, well worth watching even if you aren't familiar with the band.

American History X

Mmmm this was even better.

Zombieland

Passable, had a few enjoyable moments and stuff.

I'm rlly bd at talking about films, wow.

To Rome with Love

7/10

I missed the first half hour or so but what I watched was quite funny - a somewhat surreal romantic comedy which pokes fun at celebrity culture, pseudo-intellectualism and high society in Rome.

Also, Penelope Cruz is ridiculously hot in it.

Chuck : they always do that. i find it a losing proposition to compare a book to a movie. i merely like watching the director's adaptation of the book. the subject matter is fantastic, so it has huge potential
