Emulators

Is anyone familiar with or use any particular Emulator for NES/Genesis?

Sadly I'm using a MAC at the moment until I can get something I'm more familiar with.

Suggestions Appreciated.

The Sega emulator I use is called Sega Fusion (or just Fusion) and it emulates a bunch of different Sega systems. Genesis, SegaCD etcetc. It's really good, never had any issues.

The NES emulator I have is FCE Ultra, I can't provide a real opinion on it though because I haven't really used it. I haven't played a NES game in a long time, and the NES emulator I used before when I did play them regularly was Nesticle. It was pretty good as I recall.

Oh, and no idea if any of them have releases for MAC, though I'm sure they probably do.

a lot of MAC emulators seem dated, and I'm basically computer retarded. I'm familiar with windows and MAC I just don't get/care to learn.

This thread will probably come in handy when I get a new laptop.

I did. this is a video game forum where you inquire about videogame related topics.

Seemed to be the logical spot to pose a question to gather info from other individuals who probably know something about this.

You just download the emulator and the ROMs.

Here's the Mac SNES emulator http://zsnes.en.softonic.com/mac

I don't know how well it will work because i have windows.

Here's the Super Metroid ROM http://www.coolrom.com/roms/snes/595/super_metroid.php

I have all my emulators organized in a folder and all the ROMs categorized by system.

Open ZSNES then go to "open" and find the rom. If you have a USB controller it will work with most emulators but some of them you have to crack. 360 controllers work automatically I think.

favourite emulators -

snes - zsnes
psx - psx, epsxe
ps2 - pcs2x
gamecube & wii - dolphin

all brilliant, get a usb adaptor and drivers (if necessary), gamepad and PC though.

anyone have MAME? Arcade game emulator?

I have multiple systems and I have no problem hooking them up just figured an emulator to be more convenient and easy to hook up on the Flat Screen.

Getting a new PC soon for this, can't stand MAC.

Is it just me or do the 8-bit and 16-bit emulators haven't really changed much in 10 years? I remember getting Nesticle when I was 12, back in '99, and there hasn't been a big update since then and its still the premier NES emulator.

And ZSNES has had minor updates as well, but its still going strong after 15 years, still has its DOS-esque interface.

you can get these on your android phone

if you are running cyanogenmod, they use a blue tooth stack that allows you to connect a wiimote or a ps3 controller to your phone. some phones even have an HDMI out to a TV

Portable gaming super station. Pretty sweet stuff

I know, if it works it works. I just think its interesting. Especially considering both Nesticle and ZSNES use pre-Win 9x GUIs.

MAME is great but something to be aware of if you are going to play Cave shmups in particular they removed functionality in later versions due to a cease and desist order. Many emulators for older consoles haven't been updated for compatibility with XP and Win 7 either, which can be a nuisance.
