So I finished a new piece. Because no one will likely listen to it, I also offer a picture of Kate Upton.

I'll fix it when I get home. On mobile at the moment, so it's not really conducive to link hunting.

In any case, thanks for checking the song out. It's going to be part of a EP that I'm hoping I get out by midsummer.

Like a year ago I had a house in the middle of Trenton, aka the armpit of NJ. It was a huge party house and I lived in the attic so random girls would always crash in it after parties and think it was okay. Me and my roommate would put on the Richard Nixon Watergate Tapes while they were sleeping and just wait for them to awkwardly leave.

That's awesome. Did any of them every reinforce the fact that they were not crooks?

What's the good word, boys?

So I took off for a weekend in Calgary with my better half and we ended up being the unfortunate victims of a break-in. Amongst several different stolen items was my 1996 Mexi Jazz Bass, my '06 Highway 1 Stratocaster and my 07-08 Fender acoustic.

After the initial shock and dismay we just grinned and bared it, and put everything back together best as we could. A trip to Guitarworks later on Saturday yielded a Taylor 214CE courtesy of my beautiful girl,

and a trip to another Guitarworks on Sunday brought this little gem into my arms

needless to say, serious upgrades, an excellent weekend amidst some chaos and, to top it off, the watch she had bought me as a surprise was found amidst the items not left in the truck! Awesome.

Hey, I have pretty much that same Taylor, but mine is the 210, not the 214. Looks exactly the same though.

Also, starting a post-rock band. And by starting I mean started but still seeking out members.

Hey Zack! How's things?!

post-rock eh? Singing, or no? Wish I still lived in Ontario, hahah.

Is Capital H still alive, or is the hiatus permanent? I watched the live video for Box a week or two ago and was all

Are you playing guitar or bass in this new group?

Hey Matt! So long it has been. So. Long.

Post rock with lots of vocals a la Silver Mt. Zion. I'm playing guitar in the group. I may play other things at other times, but just guitar so far.

Captial H is probably gone. We can call it an indefinite hiatus, but I doubt we'll go back to it. The end went down pretty shitty and I don't see that band working again. Still glad there are people who like what we did.

What's been going on in your world (aside from being robbed, which sucks hard)?

You know it, buddy. Still doing security at nights?

a la SMZ eh? sounds like it'll be real intense. What are you looking at instrument-wise and will you be singing too?

Sucks to hear the aitch is gone. What went down exactly?

I just dropped my girl off at the airport, she's going back out on her three-week shift and I'm back at the office jumpin' into things. Going to see Big Wreck in Edmonton on Friday and I'm stoked for that.

Also, Calgary police called me yesterday - they found my Mexi Jazz Bass and my Stratocaster. Whoops... anyone want to buy a brand new American Deluxe Jazz?!? hahah

She's the absolute best though, even though we dropped like two-plus grand on instruments she was so excited to hear two of my three instruments have come back.

So all in all, I guess things are going pretty smooth.

Can't you return the stuff to the store? Most places have a return policy.

After seeing them live, SMZ instantly became one of my favorite bands. I would love to make music that powerful, so that's the aim. I'm starting to sing and intend to do as much as I can vocally.

Instrumentally, right now we're two guitars and a piano, with some switching to synth, glockenspiel, and kalimba. We're obviously still looking for a bassist and a drummer, and trying to get a violinist. A cellist would be awesome, but who knows about finding someone that plays cello...

As far as Capital H is concerned, it ended when we had a few good shows booked and our drummer said to cancel them because he didn't want to play. And we didn't play again after that, which was about a year ago. But that doesn't really matter anymore because I'm so stoked about what we're doing now.

Oh, and I'm now working security during the days. Mon-Fri 8am-4pm.

That's awesome that you're getting most of your stuff back.

Around these parts most stores have a return policy. The policy is "no".

Not too worried about returning it.

Also, R.I.P. Adam Yauch. the world just lost a great bass player.

I think I've figured out my guitar recording setup.

Dr. Boogie Distortion -> Real McTube tube OD -> cab simulator + DI

With any luck, I should be able to convincingly achieve a heavy metal tube amp sound at a fraction of the cost and weight.

Instead of the Dr. Boogie, I'm going to build this OLC Slow Century: http://www.olcircuits.com/olc_slowcentury.html

The Mesa Dual Rectifier circuit is based off of the SLO-100, and so this pedal is based off of that SLO-100. It's similar to the Dr. Boogie, but I think the distortion sounds a bit smoother.

I'm the only post rock fan in the universe who doesn't like Godspeed though so maybe that explains it
