adhering to manly principles
if it's not 17"+, it isn't a crash, it's a splash gone wrong |

Before I traded in for the e-kit I was thinking the same thing, I was wanting to drop the 16" crashes and get 2 20's or a 19 and 20, I have really been digging the explosiveness of bigger crashes lately

Congrats ludvista! That'll be an awesome time. Get some video!!
Mmm big crashes. But I also like small crashes. Splashes. Other shiny things to hit, too many cymbals not enough time! What was it Tony said, something along the lines of "I hear violins in my cymbals" Quote:
Greb Indeed! Too many badass drummers and "sig" products to keep track of! All "signature" artists are in it for.. if not money, gear, support, exposure, etc it's always a two way street with any product/company endorsement deal. They provide X for you, and in turn you provide Y for them. For instance the LDS gives me (and a few others) stooopid good deals, and in turn we do in store clinics, masterclasses, plugs, events, etc Speaking of products... drum swag anyone? http://www.cafepress.com/dontpractice Last edited by Vinnie's Ice Cream; 04-25-2012 at 12:20 PM. |

well yeah, they're in it for something. it's not like they couldn't afford it. kinda stating the obvious there.
i've generally maintained that i wouldn't be that into an endorsement deal, at least for cymbals, because i like to change it up, but to be honest, if you're a working musician, most any manufacturer has got a wide enough range that you could get everything you want from it, at least for most playing. not sure i could do paiste though. they've been making better and better cymbals the last few years, but i've not heard a ride of theirs than has that "tah" sound going on. don't get me wrong, i've got a 20" trad medium, and that cymbal is godly, but i'd probably have to go for a turkish style maker. y'know, in whatever fairy land i'm in where i've got cymbal companies knocking down my door to give me free shit |

spirit check out the Paiste Masters Twenty collection, super amazing sounds. Very pricey though.
Sticks and heads are all I care about! Cause it's the only things I actually use up! |

i'm aware of them. haven't had too much of a chance to play any of them for any length of time. for being closer to switzerland/germany, the uk has a lot of shops with shitty paiste selections.
paiste seem to be pretty pricy generally. i mean, almost all of the major companies are now, but take the reissue 602's. it's amazing that (by all accounts) they sound exactly the same as the old ones, but i can buy original ones second hand for less than i can buy new ones. also, who am i kidding, i'd totally take a paiste endorsement. |

Has anyone checked out, as in played on in person, supernatural cymbals? Idk much about the company, but I tried some big crashes from them that would really explode, amazing stuff, haven't tried hats or ride though, I don't think the same characteristics I liked about the crashes would apply with hats or a ride, unless you're using the ride as a crash of course

I'm leaning toward a byzance trad medium or a Byzance Dark Raw Bell

Which ever one appeals to your ears the best!
I checked out 'Supernatural' cymbals at namm last year, that's about the extent of what I remember, so apparently they weren't anything worth writing home about. Same for Bliss, Dream or whatever that other cymbal company is. Hot tip is the Wuhans, particularly the "Traditional" series. I've used these several times on recordings along side my other high end crashes from both Sabian and Zildjian. Nobody, and I mean nobody, has been able to tell the difference between the $40 crashes and $250 crashes. |

Dream's major draw is the price, like the hat's I got for 125$ CAN brand new. They are just average sound wise, but again, cheep and they take a beating.

i'd say dream has two major draws. the first is price. the second is as much a negative as a positive - the fact that they're inconsistent. if you can try a large selection, you can find some great cymbals for great prices, however you can't really buy sight unseen. or sound unheard, i suppose.

The supernaturals were expensive at the shop I was at, definitely not priced like the dream cymbals

I liked the Sand Ride a lot.
Have you thought about the K Custom Special Dry, Phil? |

Thinking of adding another floor-tom to my new kit. Can't decide if I want 15" or 16" though.

haven't played many (any) 15" floor toms, so i dunno if they're much different to 16", but the larger will be a lot easier to find heads for, but you probably knew that already.

I don't play Sugar-Coated PS6s™, just ordinary coated Ambassadors, so happily it's not really a factor.
