well tbh, the 5 miles thing was (we guess) mainly a result of us being next to a raised embankment, that the sound was carried along next to. it wasnt loud as such (off the top of my head, 110db at foh), just carried nicely. the noise officer who came to talk to us was very nice, though slightly annoyed he'd spent 4 hours trying to find us, since they didnt expect to have to be searching 5 miles away! he had to go back to the office and look up who'd applied for entertainment licences for that weekend.

i guess it could've been said we were irresponsible in our design, but if you saw our system you wouldnt have thought you'd be able to hear it at the other side of the farm, let alone 5 miles... less irresponsible, more an oversight we have now noted...

but hey, 5 miles sounds impressive to the uninitiated, eh?

110dB at FOH means your audience suffered permanent hearing loss after 2 minutes:
http://www.dangerousdecibels.org/hearingloss.cfm

110dB 1m from the speaker is ok if your audience is 128m from the speakers. (for every doubling of distance you shed 3dB)

and speakers project sounds both forward and backward. Please learn more acoustics before you continue to deafen people.

In other news,

the test finish panel beneath the speaker in the right of the picture... that finish will be on the speakers.

You probably permanently deafened all babies within that 5 mile radius. I hope you are happy with yourself.
