Yeah I've been using FL studio on and off for about a year and its pretty solid, you can pretty much make whatever you want on it, and it supports all MIDI controllers, etc.. If you wanna hear a sample of what it can do just let me know and I'll upload something.

you can trigger the sounds with your computer keyboard, it has a drum machine, piano, several synths etc in the program

you can slice samples as well, and download extra programs for additional synths, sounds, etc. Its pretty straight, and with a little tweaking you can make some quality shit

Yeah it's great to start out with but once you learn to use it there's actually a lot you can do with it

FL studio is really only supplementary imo it has great slicing mechanics though and lots of good things about it

but in order to truly shine you should combine it with programs like ableton and reason

i never understood what use ableton and reason came in for making beats, as long as you're not recording anything

what?

reason isn't recording software...

and ableton can be but they're both primarily instrument software programs

if you have a mac and dont want to spend any money on software then use garage band. it supports midi and comes loaded with lots of different drum kits, synths, and pretty much every other essential instrument. it also has loops to help get you started if you dont know much about making tunes.
