I have basically hit a wall in my playing. I can play pretty much as I wish in terms of scales, modes, arpeggios, etc. My issues are coming from picking now. I spent about 3 months building up my scales, modes, and other lick vocabulary but I am having a tough time getting alternate picking on chords and palm muting chords. I can build the chords, but when it comes to switching up the picking or even straight down and up picking as the case with the song I am working on, I tend to lose a ton of time and I can't even get it close to how the song sounds.

Is there a proper guide to give me some advice on improving this? I'm really frustrated because I can finally tab songs by ear and learn songs by ear, but I can't play them because once I get to anything involving alternately picked chords or palm muting, I am screwed.
I understand the frustration and I have a free ebook on my site that may help with building alternate picking across strings. This is a very difficult technique to master and sometimes may take longer than a year to fully master. Check out the file at my site and let me know if that helps at all especially the cross string picking exercises. Your feedback is appreciated.
