How can you miss ASIO4ALL, or Chainer?? ABSOLOUTLEY ESSENTIAL. The demo of Chainer is fully functional apart from saving presets but you don't need to do that if you save them within your sequencer. This program makes all synth multi-timbral under one MIDI channel...no need to open multiple instances as this keeps it all together. Check it out http://www.xlutop.com/html/chainer.html
