Reviving this thread from the past, the Pop-Punk forum felt this needed to be restored for everyone to see
The rules are simple. I am going to post 3 songs at the bottom of this thread, and you have to post saying you will listen to one of those songs. You must then review it, and recommend another 3 songs for someone else to be "forced" to listen to
RULES:- DON'T SPAM!
- If someone has already called dibs on a song, you cannot call dibs on it. If you both call it at the same time and they call it before you (I.E. their post shows up above yours), please delete yours. I doubt 1 post is going to hurt your post count if you care so much
- The idea is to recommend songs which you think not many people will have heard. So don't suggest Green Day or Blink-182
- When you list your songs, be sure to include a rough genre like I have below. Include the band name and song title as well (Obviously)
- Try not to review a song you have already heard, and if you have heard all 3 then leave it for someone else who hasn't heard any of them. It's not really forced listening if you have listened to them somewhere else, is it?
- The ONLY posts that should be in this thread are dibs are reviews. I'm not bothered about dibs because they don't exactly clutter it up, but please don't spam. If you feel it necessary to make a bump, once someone has replied, delete your bump please
Since I said I would review one of Vince's songs from the previous thread, I'm going to review that now and post my suggestions below it.
Mod Flanders Conspiracy - Such is the Wrath of the Thrice Angered Manatee
The songs starts off with a poorly executed acapella intro, leading into a calmly played melody which I personally thought was ruined by the gritty vocals. We then enter a more chaotic breakdown which suits the singers rough style. The guitars sound well played, although a little over-distorted, and the drumming is on-par. It slows down slightly, only to be led into one of the funkiest basslines I have heard in a while, accompanied by a Korn-esque beatbox-type-thing. The song then repeats itself basically.
I thought the song was very random, and had too many different sounding sections. It started quiet and slow, then sped straight up into a hardcore part, then led into a softer more pop-punk style and finished off with a funky and hasty section. Then it repeated.
I think this song needed to find it's identity more instead of trying to incorporate many different styles into it. It works well with 2 styles in some songs, but too many is too much sometimes. In this case, it is. The guitar work is done well, and the drummer and bassist certainly proved they could play the different themes. But the vocalist. He was a problem. He seems like a very loud singer, and on the melodic and slow parts it didn't work for me at all. If they could get a better voice and cut the song in 2, concentrating more on the styles they have in it, I think this song would be a lot better.
7/10
My choices:
Emanuel - The Hey Man! (Rock/Pop-Punk)
Lux Courageous - Ambulance (Indie/Rock)
The Lucky Nine - Hibernate (Hard Rock)
