I'll just post the last show I went to:
Stiff Little Fingers - October 7th
I got there just as the support band, Huron, was starting their set. Musically they were fine but they were incredibly bland. Every song sounded like a different band but they were all horribly generic even down to the title. They'll probably be the next big thing.
In between sets they played this weird stuff that sounded like Devo covering classic punk songs.
It was a while before SLF came on and the place filled up considerably. When they finally came on the the atmosphere was great. The band played well with Jake Burns telling little stories about each song before he played them. Before Beirut Moon he talked about a soldier who was going to Iraq he met in a pub the night before whose opinion on George Bush was "He's the dumb fucking cunt that's gonna get us all killed." That got one of the loudest cheers. The other came from his declaration before 'Doesn't Make It Alright', "I could tell you all about how I slaved over this song getting every word perfect but I won't, because I stole it off THe Specials" and his speech about Joe Strummer before Strummerville. The guitarist sang one song but all I could remember was that he looked just like Compo from Last Of The Summer Wine. Bruce Foxton looked really old and seemed to be enjoying himself but besides Jake Burns the most entertaining one was the Drummer who seemed to have 4 extra cymbals on his kit just to make his drum solos look cooler which they did. He had a great solo before the quiet section in Barbed Wire Love where he went absolutely crazy before ending with a quiet little 'Ting' on one of the cymbals and a stupid grin on his face. They played Suspect Device and then left before 2 encores with the final one predictably being the crowd pleasing Alternative Ulster. They played great. The only annoying thing was that I could dance due to my broken collar bone. I went home with a t-shirt and a big grin on my face.
