i dont have anything to offer except that i agree with the thread starter. and i hate the term pop punk, thought it does serve a purpose i guess. isn't punk the opposite of pop. i think mainstream punk may be a better genre name.
though it may be considered emo or rock i'd recommending checking out "last days of april." it was one of the bands that i started getting into when i was bored of blink, jimmy, etc. best songs: "aspirins and alcohol" and "days i recall being wonderful" the whole album "angel youth" sounds very organically progressive to me.
