Well, I didn't say that it was... only that the telecaster is a hell of a lot more versatile than Ned was giving it credit for.
But to say that Bill Frisell and Ed Bickert's music isn't 'really true jazz' is absolute bull****... either ignorance or elitist Young Lion crap of the worst kind... listen to Bickert's playing on
Pure Desmond or Frisell's recent collaborations with Dave Douglas or Fred Hersch; they're as much jazz musicians as anyone you'd care to name.
Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, and Danny Gatton obviously aren't/weren't jazz musicians... but if you listen to Gatton's duet record with Joey DeFranesco, you'll hear some great jazz tones.
