What's the best video angle?
Of a drummer playing live. If you could pick only one that is.
I will record my show Thursday using whatever is recommended here. |
I like the side views from behind the floor toms, I guess that's the easiest way to explain it, you can see more of what's going on, what's your bands name?
|
Behind at an angle from above gives you the best view. I don't have mine from above but it at least allows the viewer to see everything I'm doing with the hands, maybe not the feet as much.

Axiom Trio I can do from the hihat side, the floor tom side has some big cymbals in the way. Bet I could go from the hihat rear quarter at a pretty good height. |
single cam?
overhead is usually pretty good, a little forward of your head, perhaps over the snare allows clear vision of the hands, and usually pretty good vision of the feet |
Ya, just a single cam. Not sure if I could pull off overhead at this venue. I'll take a look later when we go sound check. Maybe I could hang the tripod upside down off the light rigging above me.... haha
If not I'll do above and behind, looking over my left shoulder. |
oh right, at a venue. and you said it in the op and everything.
my bad. assuming you can't rig something ridiculous (and likely precarious) up, what you're going with sounds like it may be the best option |
Sound check was great, pretty good sound over all. But could not rig an overhead shot unfortunately. I'll go with the looking from above over the left shoulder angle.
|
Can you embed on this forum? Here's a song from
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UCWDy6pKNY |
you can't. never have been able to, at least not that i can recall.
can't watch right now, but will do later |
Great chops but I am a little bit disappointed in the sound of the drums considering in another thread you told me that with no eq or fx added they sound just like the ones in these links you had posted.
Great chops but I am a little bit disappointed in the sound of the drums....
Thanks! The sound sucks balls with out a doubt... ...cause it's from the camera! Poor little 5 year old CoolPix. I'm sure it was never meant to record audio on the drum riser at a rock show. |
Well Im sure it probably is the camera. Would you like me to try and round up the hand held camera that was 3 years old when it was used to record my kit back in 2004? Im sure the now 11 year old camera would have a much better sound quality.
|
What's your point dude?
I don't give a flying rats left pinky toe about your lack playing footage, or your drum sound, or your pathetic attempt to compare drum sounds from my live shot footage to our discussion about how PHX"s sound through drum mic's raw. Seriously.... just give it up. |
Geese, a bit touchy are we? Give what up? Your the one that said they sound just like those links you posted raw without being eq'd to death and fx added. Just trying to help you prove it considering my now 12 year old toms shot with a now 11 year old camera sound closer in warmth and fullness to those links you posted.
BTW The reason my playing is lacking in that earlier clip is I am singing as well as playing and I dont go around shooting video and posting it for shameless self promotion like you do, I figure if its good enough, someone else will record and post it, just like that one I posted which had originally been shot and posted by someone in the crowd. |

They are. Feel free to email Steve Holmes about his recording setup with the videos if you are interested. I don't need you to help me do anything. At all. Keep the thread to the discussion or keep out of it. |

Well I am sorry but they dont sound it. Maybe they just need some new heads and or a good tuning or perhaps you could get Steve to drop by and give them a quick tuning for you.
Keep the thread to the discussion or keep out of it.
Yeh, you can take your own advice on that one buddy! Cheers!:thumb: |
Does this mean your done yet?
|
Well that my friend all depends on you, your big mouth and where you stick your nose next! Karma's a Biatch!
|
Loving the fills man! And what's your splashy cuppy thing between the hats and crash?
|
Still waiting to hear this big fat resonant unmiked sound you keep going on about, granted im sure they sound good, Yamaha doesnt make a bad product but they certainly dont sound like the vids you posted that are supposedly done with no eq and no fx. What do you keep telling me put up or shut up. Well I did put up, my vid shot with a now 11 year old hand held certainly captured a bigger fatter warmer sound of my now 12+ year old kit than the 3 year old camera captured for you on your newer technologically advanced kit. But you can blame it on the camera, I would too considering how much you say you paid for the kit compared to what I can get a new set for....lol,
You wanna troll my threads an post crap, 2 can play that game but at least I will man up and post pics, vids and facts to back up my statements and wont resort to bad mouthing products saying "they sound like ass" or post a vid only to blame the less than bragged about sound quality on the camera. |
Well at least you admit to trolling...
Yes, because close mic'd clean drum sounds truly compare to a 5 year old digital camera. Seriously, what is wrong with you? It's fucking HILARIOUS you think I would take insult about you posting some nonsense in a thread of mine. It really speaks volumes to how shallow your life is and how much you put into some incredibly unpopular internet forum and some very random persons opinions. HILARIOUS! ...and a little bit sad. |
what are you talking about, this place is bouncing!
|
We have seen this many times around here with product placement and brand hustling
It never ends well |
Haha, well or not, id like to see some new topics up for them to fight for anyways
|
True
Maybe we'll see Ahead sticks posts soon haha |
oh dear... rofl
|
Too funny!!
If I truly had no pride, I'd use some as a gag in a video. But even for a few seconds would be too much.... |

i believe some of it, some of it is really good bs
