bass finally finished
Finally finished my bass project that i started last summer
took a while, what with being in uni and all that i know that some of you have said previously that you don't like the scratch plate, but it's each to their own i guess any way, just thought id share my little bit of handywork with the rest of you cheers |
i think the pickguard looks sweet. very nice.
|
I actually like the pickguard. I think the body shape is a bit awkward, but it looks to be of excellent construction and the wood grains are beautiful!
I think I'm going to take the summer off from school and try to build a bass again. You have inspired me, sir. Any sound clips? I bet that thing is growly as a motherf**k. Specs? |
body is ash/rosewood, sprayed (airbrush) polyurethane varish finish
wilkinson p-ups, with volume and tone for each new jay turser neck (never heard of them, but thats what it said on the headstock) with wilkinson tuners 2mm aircraft grade titanium pickguard, with a 'bed scraped' chessboard finish (took about 10 hours with a file and angle grinder to get the shape, then another 2 hours for the pattern bridge was £10 from ebay thats about it, total cost about £180 (not including the titanium) no sound clips sorry, i make them better than i can play, really should work on that one |
Well, it looks good. Superb work, my friend.
Btw, the rosewood strips are absolutely gorgeous. |
the neck sounds kinda lame but... as long as you like it... it looks cool
|
Nice. I don't personally dig the neck or the pick guard. Jay Turser makes a lot of copy types. We sell a few at work and the quality blows. As long as you checked it out and are happy with it then I suppose your good.
Grats :) |
gd job
|
the neck was pretty crap when i got it, but it was cheap, which is what i was aiming for
took a bit of sanding getting all the standard finishes off, then a bit of work with a cabinet scraper to get it as smooth as possible. finished it with tung oil, and its pretty good |
Very nice. What does the headstock look like? And how does she sound?
|
That is most excellent.
I applaud you sir. Where did you get your parts from? I've been kinda inspired to start a bass from scratch, found a website or two with helpful stuff but they're not great for bass. |

that is so rad, i dig the pickguard and stripes. not a huge fan of the body shape though.
can anyone recommend a good place to buy a nice neck w/ fretboard? my friend is building a bass and that is the last thing it needs... |
looks like a fine piece of work you´ve made there. have you ever crafted your own bass neck? because that would allow you to build a neck-thru bass. (awesome!!)

I dig the pick guard and the ferrules around the pots, nice attention to detail.
What's next on your list? |
Nice build, great attention to detail... I would have opted for a wider grain (faster grown) white ash tree, like one that grew up by a creek (swamp ash) instead of one that grew away from a constant water source (upland ash). Did you make the maple neck too? How wide is the bout of the body - look a little narrow in the pic, but maybe that how you want it?
|
love the pickguard shape, dont really like the checkered metalic finnish, seems out of some sort of cheap auto tunning.
|
like finnish, pickup set up and bridge.
Body shape is very interesting, it is not very common but it should be more, because it is a very well ballanced shape. reminds me of this |
