Local Music

Plus the return of me!
Sup everyone? It's been a while since I've been on here. I've mostly been spending my time with my band and listening to tons of other local music, and there are so many bands out there that I think deserve lots and lots of credit for thier music, but don't get it because people don't know who they are. So here is a chance to shine light upon those bands that you know of. So I guess it isn't JUST local bands, but small bands in general, so let us begin!

Nickel Arcade:
This is a fairl good little Pop-Punk band from Portland who have been around for a few years now. They won a big Battle Of The Bands that we also played at, which I kind of hate them for, but they're still a fairl good band, and I think people here might enjoy them, so I give them to you.

Wheelchair Renegads:
I saw these guys live just the other week (they were playing with some old friends of mine). They were pretty damn good and had great stage presence. They're also amazingly nice guys (they sacrificed part of their set because the original opening band had a member running late, so they decided to go first instead). Again, pretty cool guys, cool music, so check that sh*t out. They sort of remind me of The Matches during the E. Von Dahl era.

I Never Head The Bullet:
I just recently found these guys. I also tend to listen to a lot of hard music on top of the Pop-Punk that I listen to. These guys have a slight bit of that element to them. Not very much, but just a little hint of it. It's like that spritz of lemon that you hardly notice, but it's still there. Anyways, they're really cool because they can keep that catchy Pop-Punk feeling while being a bit harder and more experimental.

Kill Your Ex:
Yeah, I know the name is the biggest stereotyped Emo name ever, but don't let it fool you. Yeah, some of you may call them Emo, and you're free to feel that way all you want to, but they don't fall under the real Emo musical structure, so... yeeeeaah. Anyways, I first heard these guys about a year ago at a cheap show, and they really amazed me. Vocally, not my favorite band, but (even though you can't hear it too well on recordings), their lead guitarist is incredible. I couldn't stop watching him. The way he played was just so lively. It wasn't in the way he moved on stage, it was in the way his fingers moved along the neck. It was awesome. So yeah, check them out too.
http://www.myspace.com/killyourex

From here on out, I'll be touching on harder bands, so if you're only into stuff like Green Day and Blink 182 and don't like screaming vocals and have serious problems with even a slight metal influence, this is probably the point where you turn back.

A Cemetery Sky:
Ok, I have played along side these guys twice now, and they are my favorite live band ever! They sound fantastic live, they have a level of energy that cannot be described, and their presence can't be beaten. Not to mention the fact that they are the coolest guys off stage. When they play, they are 100% party, but when they're not playing, the are some of the most casual and well spoken people in the world. They're music is the reason I can't move my neck today, and all of their songs are about horror movies (Halloween, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Devils Rejects, etc.). I absolutely love Haddonfield. These are their first recordings, so the quality isn't top notch and some of the timing is just a touch off, but it's still great anyways.

The Brotherly Love:
Some pretty cool guys. They just picked up the former drummer of Delay The Burial who we were supposed to have an upcoming show with, but then (once again) the drummer left and they kicked out their singer. But, the drummer did make a great move by joining TBL. They've been around for a short period of time and have seen quite a few drummers pass through, but they've managed to hold on. And one thing I absolutely love about them: Their guitarist is like 11 or 12 years old and write some of the heaviest sh*t out there and he can shred like a muthaf*cka. The only song on their page has no vocals, but just listen to the music, cause it's still great.
http://www.myspace.com/thebrotherlylove

Here's To Silence:
Alas, a great band that has gone in different directions. They broke up a few months back. I only saw them once, and they were REALLY REALLY GOOD! But shortly after seeing them, their guitarist left, and then their bassist. They never found replacements, and disbanded from there. However, I'd like to point out that the bassist and guitarist leaving were events that took place BEFORE the recording on their page was even made. All the instrumental stuff on the page was done by the drummer. The man is truely a god. Anyways, though they are over, I still suggest you listen to what they got done.
http://www.myspace.com/herestosilence

Arise The Dead:
Some pretty good friends of mine. The singer and guitarist (the Gilmer brothers) used to be in a band known as Stopwatch Trauma, who gave us our very first chance to play any show at all (mind you, it was a three hour drive to get there, but it was worth it). But I guess there was some personal stuff going on with them in the band, so they decided to form Arise The Dead (what they call a "sideproject"). Though they play some of the old Stopwatch Trauma songs, they do it with an intensity that I never saw in SWT. They are truely amazing and the song writing is absolutely fantastic.

And finally, because I can, my own metaphoric d*ck sucking...

Our Fangs, Our Pistols:
Yeah, I know there's things against promoting your own band here, but it falls under the same general thread topic, and I have absolutely no shame at all. Originally known as Dystophia, the band started around a year ago. I joined in September as the new drummer, pushing the old drummer (Nathan) up to lead guitar and addtional vox. Since then, we've popped out two demo CDs (one 5 track, and one 6 track) and have played 4 shows, with another 4 lined up in the near future. The new songs on the page were recorded on Saturday, so they are BRAND NEW. Our singer just grazes the 5 foot mark, but still puts out a fairly low scream that still surprises me. What I enjoy even more is that I am 18 years old, a senior in High School, about to graduate. Everybody else in the band is just about to wrap up their Freshmen yeah in HS, and they're all 14 and 15 years old. It's great. But please, listen, tell us what you think, and if you enjoy, pass it on along with all the other bands I have just presented you with. Listen to the first song on the page and the last song, if any.

Now it's your turn! Give us something GOOD! You know of those bands out there that kick ***, but WE DON'T KNOW THEM! WE NEED TO KNOW THEM! Those bands need some help getting out there, and by telling the rest of the world about them, you are putting them just one step closer! So help some brothas (and sistas) out!

This guy isn't the smartest guy ever, but he somehow has an amazing talent for writing songs. His kinda "joke" song Super Cereal is suprisingly addicting. All songs were recorded on his computer.

Highlighted bands are bands I think are good. Listen to all that catch your attention though.

Kid tested....mother approved.

Bands tight. Theyre kind of not from pittsburgh though, a little more up north. Still western PA, but whatever.

CommieCanada 03-28-2007 01:22 AM

i only care about 3 local bands

The Tale Of

Some cool dudes from the land of san antonio. They have a good mix of pop-punk and a little bit of post hardcore. Its good stuff, nice and catchy. The lyrics are good and the music is put together well. Check em out, they're worth your time to take a listen. www.myspace.com/thetaleof

The Panic Division

ive repped these dudes on the forums a few times. They are down. Their debut was released on the militia group to a positive response. some 80s influence here and there. really catchy and the vocals are impressive. Lost of good guitar work and good change ups. www.myspace.com/thepanicdivision

Westbound Departure

you know im all about these guys. they are going in to record another ep this april and i cant tell you how much i love the previous stuff. great band with a lot of potential and some really good friends of mine, plus they put on a badass live show. www.myspace.com/westbounddeparture
