Slap plate
 

whats a slap plate? sorry about the noobish question but to know you have to ask

Metal plate set in the end of the fingerboard on a fretless to give the strings something hard to slap against.

Hey, you learn something new everyday! I didn't even know what that was. But I guess I'm not a bassist.

I thought it was bad for the fretboard to slap on a fretless though?

hmmm... anywhere to buy slap plates online?

or should i just go about fabricating one in at our school

also any pics of these on a fretless? i wanna see one before i try to make em for ****s and giggles

Thats also part of what the slap-plate is for.



TS, you might be able to find someone to make one for you, but i dont know how easy itd be.

If youre a decent metal-worker, itd be worth a shot.

my school has pretty much everything to do it EASILY

also got all the CNC stuff to make it damn precise (cnc mill, laser, etc just to name a few)

sooo i dunno if you'd wanna just gimme some good specs and maybe a picture or two and i can give it a shot for anyone thats willing, and if i dont get it right i wont charge a dime

it basically just has to cover the end of the fretboard.

looks really simple... say 1/2 to 1 inch wide, and wrap around the edge to be tacked onto the neck by acouple screws?

also i can engrave anything into the plate thats wanted, so if anyones interested IM me on aim...rangerrik07

sounds about right.

Measure it out. Cut a slice out of your fingerboard, and slide in a metal plate to replace it.

couldnt you just extend it over the fretboard like a willis wedge?, then you dont have to 'chop' up your freboard, its what im planning on doing anyways

yeah, i was just simply thinking of something that fits snuggly over the fret board, and can then be screwed onto either the body or the top/bottom edge of the fretboard itself

the trick to doing one properly is to get it slightly higher than the bottom edge of the fretboard (so that the string actually makes contact with it) but keeping it low enough that you don't have to play with high action just to avoid buzzing out on the plate.

If you just screwed a metal plate on the top of the fretboard ( where the hig notes are) wouldnt it act as a top fret or something? and buzz against it.

I'd say cut a bit out your fretboard. But im only a kid, go to a repair man and ask him. dont get him to do it, tdo it yourself, save you some money lol.

not if its a thin metal plate... ie any kind of sheet metal

i dunno though, i'm just finding a way of doing it without posibly completely killing the bass

No in that case just glue it on or something. that way if u ever find u want to take it off, you can chip i off, and file away the glue or something. instead of trying to glue back in a chunk of the neck
