The R&M Recommendations Thread

Ok, we have WAY too many threads about what music to buy, what cds to burn, what bands cd is the best, yada yada yada.

Put it all here. Anything related to this outside of this thread will be considered spam.

This thread is for asking for recommendations, and replying to people's requests. Not Randomly recommending music.
If you feel something must be recommended then use this post as a benchmark of what to do.

In future find out what a thread is about before posting in it.

The Berzerker, for our more 'extreme' metal-fans.
A bloody brilliant band, but you have to like that kind of music.

Here are my album recommendations:

Breaking Benjamin: Saturate

Sevendust: Animosity

Tool: Aenima & Lateralus

30 Seconds to Mars: Self-Titled

That's pretty much it.

Kingofdudes 01-02-2005 12:36 AM

Meh, I think this thread should be more about answering requests instead of just listing your favorite band's CDs.

Seafroggys 01-02-2005 12:37 AM

Any original Beatles studio release from Rubber Soul onward (Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper's, Magical Mystery Tour, White Album, Abbey Road) except for the newer Yellow Submarine (has more songs) and Let it Be Naked. Plus Past Masters 1 and 2.

Aqualung by Jethro Tull.

Plastic Ono Band and Imagine by John Lennon.

OOOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH, mixing megadeth with nirvana equals  for me, but, for megadeth: Peace Sells... But who's buying?, Killing is my business, rust in peace if you havent heard them and want a good approach. I guess Nevermind by nirvana, even though i've never heard any of it  .

People into Thrash Death MEtal should listen to Testament (Low, Demonic, The Gathering, or even the remakes of their 80's classics on First Strike Still Deadly)

If anyone knows any bands like Testament let me hear them. I dig Chuck Billy in all the Testament eras.

I would recomend Killing is my business... and business is good, by Megadeth.
for nirvana i would recomend every album except nevermind. Bleach, incesticide, in utero, muddy banks.

Nevermind is too overrated, it's a great album but the hype surrounds it kind
of overshadows all their other works.

Black Sabbath

Ozzy Years - from best to worst in the mind of Brum.

Black Sabbath
Vol.4
Sabbath Bloody Sabbath
Master of Reality
Never Say Die!
Sabotage
Paranoid
Technical Ecstasy

Dio Years.

Live Evil
Heaven and Hell
Mob Rules
Dehumanizer

I can't really say anything about the post Dio years, but Headless Cross is a good album.

So yeh, if you're looking into starting your Black Sabbath collection, I recommend buying the albums in the order that I've posted them. :thumb:

If unsure about buying an entire album:

The Best of Black Sabbath (Mainly Ozzy years stuff, a few songs from post Ozzy years)
Symptoms of the Universe : 1970 - 1978
We Sold Our Soul for Rock n Roll

Those 'Greatest Hits' packages are great, with We Sold Our Soul...coming last due to only going up to the Sabotage album of the Ozzy years (1976..I think..)

Enjoy.

100% correct. We do not need to list our favourite cd's, its silly.
Can someone reccomend me the good Megadeth CDs, and Nirvana ones?
NIRVANA:
---------

It depends on which kind of music you like more. If you like heavy stuff, I'd recommend you to buy their first album Bleach (1989) and find their unreleased demos from 1988-89. Bleach is a brilliant example early Seattle grunge in styles of Tad, Melvins, Mudhoney, etc.

Some good songs to download and check out the album:
1. Scoff
2. Floyd The Barber
3. Love Buzz
4. Swap Meet

If you'd like to hear kind of punk-grunge stuff, get Nevermind which is their best release (not for me). It has a few good songs but it's just not what I like.

Songs from the album:
1. Lithuim
2. Come As You Are
3. Territorial Pissings
4. Smells Like Teen Spirit

In Utero is a bit similar to Nevermind however I guess it's worse.

Songs:
1. Sever The Servants
2. Radio Friendly Unit Shifter
3. Heart-Shaped Box

Also, DO buy Nirvana Unplugged, it's a very good Live album, where you can hear a very different band and fantastic vocals by Cobain.

Songs:
1. Lake Of Fire
2. Where Did You Sleep Last Night
3. About A Girl

MEGADETH:
-----------

Ask any metalhead, and they'll tell you to get Rust In Peace. I agree it's a fantastic album. You'll hear an awesome lead work by Marty, Nick's sick drumming and Dave's mindblowing rhythm parts.

Songs:
1. Hangar 18
2. Tornado Of Souls
3. Rust In Peace
4. Holy Wars

However I'd recommend you to get my fav album which is Peace Sells. I swear it's a classic. Many people ignore this album but for me it is the best 'deth CD. If you like Metallica, you should get this album. It's kind of close to them. Peace Sells lacks good production, but Gar's (RIP) drumming, Chris' solos and Dave's rhythm parts are as powerful as in any other 'deth album.

Songs:
1. Peace Sells
2. Devil's Island
3. Good Mourning.......Black Friday

Also, download these songs from their first album (Killing is My Business):

1. Rattlehead
2. Mechanix
3. Looking Down The Cross

I've heard of Haggard before, but I've never been able to get any of their songs. I don't want to rush out and buy an album before I hear something from it! Anyone know where to find some songs or song samples?

Bartender 01-02-2005 10:30 AM

Yes, could we please stop just listing recommendations? The point of a thread such as this is that people can ask for recommendations based on their taste, not that people can list all their favourite stuff.

In response to something on the first page; I think Kabz was the earlier one to do something like this.
