Home made pick-guard

My original account, issues, was banned for apparently hacking a super-mod account. If only i could actually do that . oh well, time to start the slow battle with the post count.

I started with a clear piece of lexan and cut from a template of my original white pick guard. Once it was cut out i painted the back side of it black. I think it looks pretty good

I like the clear one. But they are all nice.

The black pickguard looks nice, but it could use polishing.

You should paint some kind of design or picture on the clear one!

good job

Completely stole my idea there like :p (It's ok though, I'm sure I stole it from elsewhere)

This is a first design, with a little stuff up. I'm gonna paint tha back of it black, but mask off some panels where it's still gonna be clear. Then I'll have little red/blue LED lights under the pickguard, which wil shine through. I'll be able to change the entire colour scheme of the guitar with a flick of a three way switch.

Yours all look great. How did you cut them out? I used my plunge router, and used hand tools to angle the edges.

A little question on the topic of pickguards..

I noticed when I took off my old Squier pickguard that the pots weren't screwed into the pickguard, now I'm thinking of blacking out my Fender Fat Strat like AG's one. How do I get the pots off my current pickguard and onto my new one??

Any help is appreciated. :thumb:

Usually the pots are attached with a nut on either side of the pickguard, which when tightened clamps it on.

Oic.

What do I use to loosen it?? (I'll practice on my Squier first for safety)

Use a spanner, or pair of plyers.

Be carefull not to put a massive scratch in the plastic.

not about the plastic, but what do those 2 pedals do?

AG 05-09-2006 11:32 AM

They're just preset volume things, I made 'em myself.

You click between the two knobs levels. You can put it infront of the amp for a gain difference, or the FX loop and change volume levels.

ah right.

i need to build a line select pedal :(

AG 05-09-2006 01:52 PM

Here's a schematic I made up a wee while ago. It's an A/B/Y pedal.

Hope it's usefull.

i was thinking something more like this

http://www.diyguitarist.com/PDF_Files/LooperSchem.pdf

i tried making it once but the switch i bought was faulty and i never bothered to follow up on the pedal i just downsized my effects rig when i joined a new band.

cheers for the plan anyway :D

i used a jig saw for a rough cut and then used a router to do the finishing...did you have any problems with the pick-up holes? mine aren't quite perfect

AG 05-09-2006 03:37 PM

Yeh, I did mine freehand, no templates. It's rough as anything, lol.

I've made templates for the next one though. Did you not have any trouble with he plastic melting/reforming when you used the jigsaw?

no that really wasnt an issue. i used a pretty wide bit with a large tooth spacing so it wouldnt melt on me

SpiggidyBob 05-10-2006 10:33 PM

I just ordered a black one off MF that I've got route out space for a humbucker in. Finally decided I need to get rid of that nasty aluminum one I made...

wells902 05-11-2006 03:49 PM

I like the black one best

(off topic) hey AG, how do you like that behringer acoustic modeler?

AG 05-11-2006 04:36 PM

It's alright, sounds nothing like an acoustic, but makes my cleans spangly.
