Punk Snobbery

I went to an indie club the other day, was the only punk rocker in there, was mostly students and trendy types. Didnt feel that welcome at first, but started dancing with everyone to babyshambles, rakes and that. The DJ put the Ramones and the The Stooges on, and I really got into it, some indies got really pissed off at my dancing, and I couldnt have been hurting them cos im tiny and they were massive. I always thought indie types were alright, butsome toher indie guys stood up for me and that and nothing came of it.

comments??

Highschool is over, labels are overated.

Tomahawk 10-30-2005 08:15 AM

Stick with your own kind, outsider.

Mild_child 10-30-2005 08:30 AM

Sam 10-30-2005 09:21 AM

They have indie clubs? Thats kinda gross.

Wanker 10-30-2005 09:53 AM

Um.

Alright.

asdf 10-30-2005 09:56 AM

I get glared at at the local coffee shop if I go there too late at night, because all the cool indie, emo, and crustpunk kids take over. I do not comply.

Back in the day (8th grade) I used to go this local coffee shop that had a lot of local punk/ska bands play there. Even though I wasn't all decked out like a punk (I wasn't at all, infact), people still welcomed me and would strike up conversation with me. I felt very at home there.

I laughed at that word.

But seriously, every genre of music has its elitist assholes.

Otherside 10-30-2005 10:14 AM

Death to Punks.

I do not dance, nor do I leave home on my own free will.

So I wouldn't know.

Zesty Mordant 10-30-2005 02:59 PM

for some reason the word "Snobbery" reminds me of the word "Shrubbery"

I originally read the thread title as "Punk Shrubbery" and I was like "cool".

ThisUserIsAPipebomb 10-30-2005 03:01 PM

There are elitists where ever you go, and where ever you go, you ignore them.

something vague 10-30-2005 03:35 PM

I never realized that indie kidz danced. I thought it was more of a head nod/mope.

GimmeSlack12 10-30-2005 06:39 PM

You were doing the Robot weren't you?
That's why they didn't like you. I guess people just don't understand that Indie kids love the Robot. I mean, I can't blame you. Ramone + The Robot = Good Times.
F*ck what they think, you do the Robot to your hearts content. I won't judge you.....much.

You're really weird, but not very funny.

Dreww 10-30-2005 09:11 PM

I know it's already been said but it can't be said enough. Labels are stupid.
For example, just because I like Pearl Jam a lot doesn't mean I only like bands MTV force fed the nation in the early 90s. I am sure that because I am open about my Pearl Jam fanboyism, many people assume that I am ignorant of less popular acts, which is false.

Sam 10-30-2005 09:12 PM

I'm suprised 'indie kid' is even a label. Do they really exist? There are none in my town.

Dreww 10-30-2005 09:14 PM

Most "indie kids" I know are self-proclaimed as such. For example, my roommate's friend wears nothing but David Byrne t-shirts. I asked him why and he told me it was because he is "indie".

Tangy zizzle 10-31-2005 04:18 AM

I hate punk snobbery. It's almost an oxymoron (if you know yer punk).

I've always had some strand of musical snobbery in me, but it's dying down. Indie clubs are places that should not be entered. Them and hardcore-oriented clubs are big no no's.

AlkoholikMouse 11-03-2005 04:40 AM

To be honest, I think the DJ has a few questions to answer. If the people in there get all arsey around punks, then why is the DJ playing music like the Ramones?

Tangy zizzle 11-03-2005 05:21 PM

Nah, I'm not gonna. I hate hardcore clubs and any pinko plebe who follows that shit.
