favourite band from your country/state

right now what is your favourite band from your country (because america is so big, i put in state, to make it more local(-ish))

for me, im listening to Catatonia alot recently :)

Glitterati 10-14-2005 11:03 AM

The Arcade Fire. w00t for Canadian Alt/Indie!

The_Passenger 10-14-2005 11:04 AM

The Beatles

From my county, I'd say Muse. I can't think of too many bands who've come out of Devon.

EDIT: If you meant bands who are around now, then Radiohead are probably my favourite home-country band.

Glue_it_back 10-14-2005 11:23 AM

catatonia are no longer, so no, i dont mean bands that are around now :p

ljump12 10-14-2005 11:24 AM

Hmm Springsteen could be said to be from Pennsylvania, even though it was really NJ...

Clunge 10-14-2005 11:29 AM

Zeppelin, Beatles, Radiohead, Muse, Amplifier - I listen mainly to English msuic these days.

Kyle 10-14-2005 11:37 AM

The Clash, The Cure and Zeppelin........and Sabbath

Ficus 10-14-2005 11:53 AM

Kansas I suppose, I don't think I know any other bands from here.

Zesty Mordant 10-14-2005 12:35 PM

Ontario, Canada:

Tragically Hip
Neil Young
K-Os
Bedouin Soundclash
Alexisonfire
Rush

Those are generally the ones worth mentioning, I know a lot of people like Broken Social Scene and Constantines and they're from Ontario as well.

Kyle 10-14-2005 12:43 PM

I think it's worth mentioning in this thread that Cooper Temple Clause came from my school:D Also a band in my year looks like they are gona make it because they are supporting trivium next month, roadrunner are supposedly looking at them.

llama1600 10-14-2005 01:18 PM

SLINT

louisville, KY, United States

Pirate Satellite 10-14-2005 01:27 PM

Piebald? Death Cab For Cutie? John Brown's Body?

I don't remember any other bands that have come from Massachusetts, but those guys are plenty good.

Danzo 10-14-2005 01:34 PM

I'd definitely say The Smiths mmmm.... Manchester is the best.

Along with the Stone Roses and Joy Division.

Happymeal 10-14-2005 02:11 PM

In here it's Propagandhi and Weakerthans. From my country, Imago.

Interstate 10-14-2005 02:12 PM

From my country either Sabbath, Radiohead or The Beatles.

From my county I'd say Fony (they're the only band I can think of that are anywhere near where I live.)
no good florida bands
Nuh-uh! Against Me! is from Florida.

Sam 10-14-2005 02:40 PM

Ugh, I'm from Maryland, alot of bands from here suck (see the infamous Good Charlotte).

If DC counts, then Minor Threat.

And Frank Zappa was born in Baltimore.

italic zero 10-14-2005 02:52 PM

They Might Be Giants are from my town.

theverymono 10-14-2005 03:12 PM

Joy Division/New Order, the only good band ever from Stockport. Pretty amazing tho, you should all learn to play shadowplay by joy division.

theverymono 10-14-2005 03:14 PM

oh, and the doves went to the same school as me, altho they're not as good...

RollerQueen 10-14-2005 09:52 PM
[...]Death Cab For Cutie [...] Massachusetts.
Death Cab, from Massachusetts? I think you're mistaken, writer friend. Pixies, yes. Death Cab, no. MA isn't WA.

Not much good has come out of Pennsylvania. Edgewise, maybe? For such a big state, we don't have much going for us. Even Montana has The Decemberists. Jesus, folks. RollerQueen has to change that.

International Steve 10-14-2005 10:45 PM

Explosions in the Sky.
Awesomeness in four shades of green.

Gainesville alone owns most other states.

Missouri - Uncle Tupelo/Wilco, the Get Up Kids, the Gadjits, Nelly

Technically, the 'Kids were from Lawrence, KS, but they're always spoken of as a Kansas City band, which is in MO. And I'm not %100 about Wilco, I think they may be a little more Chicago-based, but Uncle Tupelo is definitely STL, so that should trickle down to Wilco.

PinkFreud 10-14-2005 11:40 PM

electric six, mc5, or the stooges.

sr800bkAGAIN! 10-14-2005 11:50 PM

Drive Like Jehu and Tom Waits came from my city.

Ontario

This is only current by the way.
