New Morrissey Album

Ringleader of the Tormentors

Ugh. At least it isn't of the Tormented because that would be far too expected. Discuss any expectations you have for the album, how much you hate Morrissey, whatever.

I'm not hoping for much, besides the Your Arsenal/Vauxhall and I pairing he's never released two good albums back to back. Not that Quarry was phenomenal, but still. At least we should get another tour which is good enough, now that he's started playing Smiths songs again.

Tony Visconti is producing, which is a huge nod to Moz's idols consider he produced most of the best glam records out there (Ziggy Stardust..., Electric Warrior, Low and plenty more).

Due out in early 2006, so next year will be great for Morrissey/Smiths fans (Smiths boxset is also due out, along with another crappy compilation).

So discuss I guess.

The NPC 10-03-2005 07:11 PM

Is the album along the same lines as late Smith's works and well his...em latest solo work?

morrissey 10-03-2005 07:16 PM

I haven't heard it, obviously.

But I'll assume so, ie: you'll hate it.

Glitterati 10-03-2005 07:17 PM

I remember You Are The Quarry had that song First Of The Gang To Die. That was a pretty cool song, I guess.

But I like the Smiths.

Oh I was under the impression you didn't.

But I can't ever imagine him returning to that sound, not with this set of collaborators.

He needs to do something like Eno/Byrne, something with a little more bite.

If he did something with either of those guys, mass pants creaming would ensue.

I don't think he has it in him. If he gave 150%, it would be phenomenal. But he's been coasting for 15 years and I don't think even a collaboration with geniuses like them would help.

edit: I would like to see a Marr reunion someday before they both lose what little energy they have left.

RollerQueen 10-03-2005 08:38 PM

Didn't Pitchfork or some other place report that this album will be his most all-out rock album to date? In any case, I can't wait to see if he does well now that he's back in the spotlight again.

Coincidentally, I listened to Live at Earl's Court on the way to classes this morning.

morrissey 10-03-2005 08:54 PM

Yeah that's what I read on pitchfork but I doubt they've even heard a song yet.

Perhaps you're right.

I thought You Are The Quarry was pretty good so I'm looking forward to the new album.

morrissey 11-16-2005 12:41 AM

Tracklisting, apparently:
1. "I Will See You In Far-off Places"
2. "Dear God Please Help Me"
3. "You Have Killed Me"
4. "The Youngest Was The Most Loved"
5. "In The Future When All's Well"
6. "The Father Who Must Be Killed"
7. "Life Is A Pigsty"
8. "I'll Never Be Anybody's Hero Now"
9. "On The Streets I Ran"
10. "To Me You Are A Work Of Art"
11. "I Just Want To See The Boy Happy"

Oh well, atleast you won't be let down.

theredwonder 11-16-2005 06:28 AM

I'd be excited but i dislike most of his solo work. Also those track names are horrible. Horrible.

Aeaon 11-16-2005 02:53 PM

Hmm, I had no idea he was doing another solo album. Though his last one was great.

Axe 11-16-2005 04:22 PM

I've never hear morrissey, but I <3 the smiths.
Barbarism begins at home is awesome :)

morrissey 11-16-2005 04:25 PM

Well if you're looking to start on Morrissey this looks like a bad place to start. He should really just pack it all in. (no innuendo)

I also <3 the Smiths. :)

I am really looking forward to this album. I hope he tours! I met him at the PV airport a few years ago. We were both checking into the same flight to LA.

He was looking very suave of course, it's Morrissey. We went to the gift shop and bought crisps. SCREAM.

IAJP 11-17-2005 12:02 PM
Even by his standards, those song titles are really lame. I'm kind of looking forward to the new album though. You Are The Quarry was a good solo album, and although I doubt he's ever going to make something as good as what he did with The Smiths, he could easily make another good album (even though a lot of his solo work is horrible). I'd like to see him go for a change in sound as well though...I doubt he could carry it off, but it would be interesting.
Viva Hate, Southpaw Grammar, Vauxhall & I and Your Arsenal are good albums though.

morrissey 11-17-2005 03:34 PM

Southpaw Grammar is bad. I like the title track, "The Boy Racer" is good, but other than that the album is dire. Kill Uncle and Maladjusted need never be mentioned.

RollerQueen 11-17-2005 07:53 PM

Almost 3 years and no stars. w00t0rz.

Not sure if I'll get this Moz album. Ah well. As long as he doesn't let his hair down, dye it black with a pink stripe, and start wearing shirts from his own old band, he lives.

Aye, I think Kill Uncle is a pretty dire album.

I do like SG, though, I don't know why.
