The official "G&L OWNS YOUR MOTHER" thread.

So... yeah. I don't think that there has been an official G&L owners thread, so here it is. Post your G&L's... and post about how awesome they are, and how cool you look holding them........ :amaze:

Here's mine:

I dont like G&L.

EDIT: Let me explain.

I like G&L bodies, and pup arrays, and switching stuff. I do not like the active electronics and the baseball ba......i mean necks.

BenJammin 08-10-2005 08:44 PM

Daaaamn.

I will vouch for the absolute sexiness of G&Ls, though I've not had the pleasure of playing one, due to the lack of anyone carrying them around here. If I did, I'd probably own one now instead of my Ibanez.

Pluperfect_Arson 08-10-2005 08:45 PM

Someone give me the ups and downs of a G&L. I really want to actually look into a G&L L-2500, but the 21-fret fretboard sucks.

I really like almost everything else about them, but I need something more to push me in the direction of a G&L. :)

bottlerocket 08-10-2005 08:45 PM

I love playing G&Ls...they're very nice basses.

I want Joe...

er, I mean...I want Joe's G&L...

Overall, they're very smooth and punchy basses. Gotta love 'em.

I want the one the guy from matchbook romance uses, that's a pretty p-bass!

deemo 08-10-2005 09:51 PM

starting a thread to show off that sexy bass? fine :(

da_s_man13 08-10-2005 10:00 PM

Funniest thread name ive seen in a while. I've never actually had the chance to play a G&L before. Could anyone give a comparison to any other basses they are like?

bryce_the_cat 08-10-2005 10:07 PM

hey joedaddio, what would YOU say is a better bass. your g&L or a musicman stingray.

JoeDaddio 08-11-2005 01:15 AM

To Lewis Therin:

G&L actually have 5 neck options to choose from. Mine is the baseball bat you speak of, but I've gotten used to it, and actually prefer it over Jazz style necks. As for the electronics, you can switch it in to passive mode (which is where it usually is set for me). Honestly I don't know why more G&L's aren't used for metal; their pups are some of the most "hot" out there. Some people complain of noise while in active mode, but I don't get any.

Gav:

You've already got me... maybe one of these days I'll let you touch my bass.... ;)

Deemo:

I show off my bass any time I can ;) But this was just a rip off idea fom the Schecter thread, which was a rip off of some other "official thread" I jsut wanted to see how many other G&L brothers I have out here in MX bass land.

Bryce:

I was super close to getting a MM before the ASAT. The reason I went for the G&L was its versatility. I absolutley LOVE the MM tone, but when you buy a MM, that's really all you get. With this I can get quite a few different tones from it, though generally I don't mess with the tone too much after I've found a combo I like. I think they are both great basses, and some day I'd like a MM... but that's down the list after I get a vintage P ;)

I wanted a G&L for so long... Then I played one...

I love the looks and feel, but the pickups were waaay to hot for me. Not what I was looking for at all.

Jaded 08-11-2005 12:19 PM

I've been waiting for my G&L since February. I'm about ready to go down to the factory and start shooting.

thanks alot :thumb: before i got my ibanez, i was really interested in getting either the stingray, or the ASAT. Too bad they are out of my price range at the moment.

This is actually probably going to be my next bass purchase.

I love G&L basses. Kinda what Fender basses want to be, but can't.

Besides the fact that the grandpappy of the modern electric bass designed most of em.

element1 08-11-2005 02:08 PM

I own a jb-2, but sadly I can't take pics of it, since it has been at the G&L factory for nearly 2 weeks (i had to send it back because it was an older upgraded model with a solid birds eye maple neck, which apparently couldn't handle the weather here so it was all out of wack). I should have it back next month, since they have to make a new neck for it. I can't complain since I got the bass really cheap, but it has been a hassle getting it ready to be played (I bought it from a recording studio who apparently didn't know how to set up an instrument)

JoeDaddio 08-11-2005 02:42 PM

i live just a few minutes awy from the factrry and i went there once when i first got my bass to get a key to open the case. haha. that was torture. Knowing it was right there in front f me, but there was nothing I could do about it.

Where'd that really stupid looking kid with all the basses go? Viva something or other.

jam session 08-11-2005 02:49 PM

Thats a massive bridge.

JamesXKillXyou 08-11-2005 03:14 PM

G&L's arent my taste. Not my tone although they claim to go from jazz to musicman. I heard more punch then anything else and not the smoothness of a J or growl. I think they lack warmth for me. Anyways... the look aint half the bad... I dont like humbuckers though they look meh to me. Just my opinion though. As long as you guys enjoy it thats all that matters.

why am i even posting here then?... idk.

Sadly, I have never actually had a chance to play a G&L. Hopefully they will have some at BassNW for me to try when I go there in September.

Bass_swede 08-11-2005 03:33 PM

what does the G and the L stand for? is L for Leo?

JoeDaddio 08-11-2005 03:35 PM

G is fr George Fullerton, L is for Leo.
