Does this ever happen to you guys?
Every time a good, lesser known singer/songwriter act comes into town it is always at a 19+ or 21+ place. I just felt the need to rant, but has this ever happened to you guys?
Yeah the main tourist attraction type place in my city is the Casino. A lot of the best bands go there to play, and I'm not allowed in so it sucks.
Almost no one high profile ever comes here.
Small acts have to do +21 shows because the only way a bar makes a profit on an all ages show is if they nearly sell out.
This is because people who want to drink don't want to be surrounded by 18 year olds. |
yes, well, it usually helps not to live in a town that noone has heard of. otherwise bands never come in anywhere near joo...
Yeah, that's always the way here.
Turn 19.
The highest age restriction we have here is 18+.
I've never been foiled by an age restriction.
My sister has, once, but that was more because the thing took place in a bar, and she wasn't 18. |
The worst I've had is when a certain venue kicked everyone under 21 out at a certain time of night. I, however, had already left when they started booting people. I just heard the outraged voices of my young friends afterwards.
When I first started going to gigs (Around the age of 14/15 the bands I wanted to see all played a club with a 16+ age limit) but they never I'd you when you were buying the ticket and when you went i the door they only reqquired ID to get your hand stamped. The club got a new license anyway and now it's 14+. I'm 18 and I can drink if I want to so it's all good.
yes, I hate it. No one good ever ever ever comes here, and when they do, it's always a 21+ show. Indiana is no-man's land, as far as music goes. Even the good mainstream bands avoid this place.
That only happens a few times here in San Diego, if the venue is at the Belly Up Tavern which is. . . . .I think 21+. So many good shows there, but I'm 4 years too young.
I never have problems with age restrictions :)
the idea behind age restrictions is reasonable, but when it becomes too much of an issue, like when a band plays appropriate songs but plays at a bar, or other "more adult" place, its just another thing that people use to bitch and moan about. just listen to their cds until you're old enough to go to see them. SUCK IT UP!
As far as I know, you can get to almost every concert around here if you are 16+. They don't even check that often.
Solution: move to Europe! |
exactly, here in Europe, there is no law written age restriction as far as i know. Of course, nobody will see kids aged 13-14 at concerts, but older then 16 always. Just this weekend i went to a huge electro festival, called TM Base, where for 3 days different artists play stuff from dnb, breakbeat, jungle, ragga, to hip hop and idm. Anyhow, what i'm trying to say is that i was there at 21 among the older people in the crowd. There were many teenagers. And that stuff happens to rock concerts also. So, i for instance never had any trouble due to age when wanting to see some artist.

Get a fake ID.
Yeah and thats how Straight Edge apparently came about.
in canada its the legal drinking is 19. i got into a lot of gigs because i did alot filming of gigs and bands and they let me in as long as i left at 10. i have no problem now, im 19. and in quebec its 18.
Nope, never had that problem. Pretty much every venue around here is "16+" but even before I was 16 they never checked any sort of ID. Then there's a small venue down the street thats all ages, every show.
I've got it pretty good for being a minor. |
