Video

So I had the camera for a night and thought what better thing to do than film myself drumming?!

First media I've ever thrown up, and I don't wanna go through the usual, "Yeah I did this at 2 am, after running and jumping, and waking up and I was really tired and my dog ate my drumstick" BS, but...

It's a litte ghetto during the middle, and my mom starts to ask me something mid-solo, you can see me shake my head. I was desperately trying to get her away! Haha, you can tell I had no idea what I was doing, but I didn't wanna stop.

I was really surprised with the sound that came through. Just using the microphone built into the camera, the cymbals sound amazing. Toms could have been better, but the bass and snares are very solid.

Sorry for the horrible video quality, I had to compress it like a mofo.

**** man thats amazing!!
how long have you been playing?

Plan B. 06-06-2005 10:15 PM

Thanks!

Come to think of it, around 5 years. Strange because it doesn't seem like it's been that long.

GooseFilms.net 06-06-2005 10:25 PM

Somewhat repetivite.
Having said that, I loved it. Great stuff, tight the whole way through. Even the quality was pretty good for a video camera. Be sure to post stuff more often.

dairyairman 06-06-2005 10:39 PM

great video! it was refreshing to hear some grooving and playing around with rhythms in this thing. i think too many times i hear people just laying down a blur of crazy stuff that doesn't make any sense.

Foxracin 06-06-2005 11:18 PM

:thumb: Thats darn good.

Sick-O 06-06-2005 11:34 PM

Awesome stuff man.. loved it :)

Epiphender 06-06-2005 11:37 PM

I really enjoyed that. Awesome job. I've never heard such good use of a cowbell before.

Is that the new Superstar in titanium fade?

drummerman 06-06-2005 11:51 PM

I liked that alot, I like the grooves you play

Det_Nosnip 06-07-2005 12:34 AM

That was great! You've got alot of groove, man...very nice playing.

Jezen 06-07-2005 12:40 AM

Yeah man that was really cool. Great job PlanB!

Oh and turn your aux snare around so you dont have to reach for the switch.

Double Bass Jim 06-07-2005 01:54 AM

Excellent.

Josiah 06-07-2005 03:33 AM

Very very nice man.

Some excellent ideas you got goin on. Good to see a trad player too!

I love the china affliction.. I have one as well..

Der Meister 06-07-2005 04:31 AM

Tht was great, one thing though, needs more cowbell

Harrow 06-07-2005 04:37 AM

those are some funky grooves man :O nice job really clean :)

Tommy-r 06-07-2005 04:37 AM

nice, diggin' the cowbell grooves :)

xeonman9000 06-07-2005 05:26 AM

That was awesome, I love the two big fills, first where you roll smoothly down and up the toms, and the one just after that.

Damo 06-07-2005 09:11 AM

very very groovy, well done.

ilikenoise 06-07-2005 09:21 AM

Great beats.
One annoyance I've got though is eg. when playing your ride or whatever on the right hand side, you don't face what you're playing, you're still facing the way your snares are. I hate seeing that when you're in the crowd and the drummer stays in the same position. But that's just me.
Good job.

P.S. Trad griiiiip :thumb:

Shane_sg 06-07-2005 10:08 AM

Very groovy, very nice. Sweet cowbell usage too, what cowbell is that, by the way?

trysthedrummer 06-07-2005 10:17 AM

Yeah your trad grip is very good. Loved the part early on with the cowbell! Great grooves you got going you incoorpirated quite a bit! Cheers for the vid :thumb:

hyperdrummer 06-07-2005 10:48 AM

really nice...i think im gonna have that beat stuck in my head the whole day now...(not saying its bad)

-TheGlassPrison- 06-07-2005 02:35 PM

Nice man..

Plan B. 06-07-2005 03:03 PM

Whoa, thanks for the comments everyone.

Yep it's a superstar, you can see some better pictures of it in the "Things" thread.

http://www.musicianforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=348074

Yes, I loooove China's, they are very close to my heart.

Haha, I was justing thinking, wow, I used that cowbell a little toooo much.

About the position, I know what you're talking about. I don't set my drumset up comepletely infront of me, the bass drum isn't the "point" I guess, it's really more where my crash cymbal is (where I'm facing forward), but I just happened to set the camera up in-line with the bass anyway. It looks awkward though, haha.

It's an LP Salsa Cha Cha ES-12 (the larger of the two). It's a great bell, can't really describe cowbells that well though, you'll just have to try one out.

Thanks again for the comments.

trysthedrummer 06-07-2005 03:39 PM
Haha, I was justing thinking, wow, I used that cowbell a little toooo much.
Yeah you did but still really good. They are bloody gorgeous china's.

Is that a Sabian china? It looks like zildjian. What make?

RushHourSoul 06-07-2005 03:53 PM

That was really, really good. I loved the cowbell grooves, something I need to learn! Very funky too, and your rolls were sweet. Please post more media when you can!

PinkFreud 06-07-2005 04:28 PM

yove got some crazy left hand skills. loved the part right in the middle with the cowbell and hihats both going.

cjcdrums 06-07-2005 04:41 PM

Very nice! It's always great to see a fellow traditional gripper!

I just swiped that cowbell groove... thanks for that!

The only advice I would have (if you're not already doing it) is to get a huge mirror and put it directly in front of your kit. It's surprising how quickly you can fix "the look" of your playing, not to mention enforce good technique. I think a lot of us have these weird little habits (not you specifically) that we don't even know that we do... like I used to play with my mouth hanging open, and make these constipated faces during fast stuff. Once I got a mirror, the problem fixed itself.

Plan B. 06-07-2005 04:50 PM

Don't worry much, I stole if from Steve Smith, and then Tony Royster stole it from me.

Remember the foot chick on the off beats ("and"'s) are essential to the feel of it.

I've always wanted to do that mirror thing, but frankly I don't have a access to a mirror big enough for this cluttered basement.
