4 string quick tuning
 

odds are that something like this has been posted, but here it is again
an easy way to tune the bass: +=sharp+flat

G|+A+BC+D+EF+G+A+BC+D
D|+EF+G+A+BC+D+EF+G+A
A|+BC+D+EF+G+A+BC+D+E
E|F+G+A+BC+D+EF+G+A+E

for GDAD tune E-7- to match A -0-

in other words, youve labeled the fretboard

a quicker way is to use a tuner

some tuners are **** and they take ages to get properly in tune, this could be very helpfull to beginers who cant tune well (i tune like this wen iv got a trebaly or smooth tone but with a more growly midsfull tone i find harmonics easier)

if you havent got a tuner, buy a "big to little" jack converter (yes ok i dont know the size of the jack plugs, i just know one is big and one is little :D) and go download something called chromatia tuner free (i dont know where it is exactly though, im sure google will help) and plug your bass into the computer and use it as a giant tuner :thumb:

just buy yourself an electric tuner mate, makes things sooo much easyer, espcally if you wnat to do drop D or B tuning

it helps because you can see what strings to tune to what strings
like, you want to tune to a certain note (say D) then look for the D on the next string and tune to that. you just have to find the right D on the fretboard

even if it does help you to tune i still think this should be in lessons

Atomicant is right, lessons is where tis belongs under a title of "fretboard labels"

How do you know the other instrument is in tune without a tuner?

I think you should have put this in lessons and not in here. Plus it isn't that simple to read unless you already know what you mean. You could have putt in "A,A#,B,C..." instead of what you put in, I think that would make more sense to anyone who isn't sure about what you said.

Tuners are soo much easier anyway.

Pianos can go out of tune aswell though, they need tuning aswell now and then (can't remember what the people are called that come out to tune pianos, its a profession).

If you're a gigging musician you will not get away with not having some kind of tuner, whether you can tune yourself to the guitarist/keyboard player etc etc, after he has tuned to a tuner or not, it would not be professional to start tuning to the guitarist during a set because you've either knocked your tuning heads or your bass is just going slightly out because of temperature.

yes, but unless you have access to a large supply of tuning forks for each note, electronic is easier! :D

mrvanquesz. Thank you. This is actually exactly what I was looking for. Some people just like tuning from one string on...like the 5ths fret on the guitar, etc... Expecially when there's not a tuner immediately handy.

Granted, this was a bit hard to read, but helpful nonetheless.

Too bad people in forums always have to shoot helpful people down. Email your complaints to yourself, I don't want to read them.

because even if you are out of tune, at least you are in tune with each other.

Pianos go out of tune. My family has an old one, we have to get it tuned like twice or three times a year.

I hate people who refuse to use tuners. Unless you have perfect pitch, please use a tuner.

Only if you are always playing the same string at the same time. Otherwise it'll sound false anyway.
