Short history of the band
Serj and Daron became friends in 1993 when they met in a a recording studio and created the band Soil. Both of them went to an armenian private school in Hollywood. Shavo liked to hang around with Soil often and was asked to become the band's manager. Shavo then learnt how to play bass and joined the band. System then changed thier name to Victims Of A Down, a name Darron thought of, then Serj suggested System Of A Down, for he thought it brought more meaning. John was chosen to play drums just before there breakthrough took place. Rick Rubin who produced many bands including, Slayer, Red hot chili peppers, Danzig, Johnny Cash and the beastie boys, is introduced to Soil through a friend and gives them a record contract at American recordings. They release there self titled in 1998 this one had some hits they never became famous until they released Toxicity in 2001. Steal this album was released in 2002 and was a collection of unreleased tracks. There new album, Mesmerize, has a release date of 16th May and they have another album out in six months called hypnotise.

exup 04-26-2005 02:06 PM

Nice group, sometimes pretty hard, often pretty chaotic/strange

Sad But True 04-26-2005 02:09 PM

I reccomend the first album to anyone who doesn't have it. I find it much more 'pure', not some watered down crap.

/cant explain

misunderstood 04-26-2005 02:11 PM

I'm gonna be seeing System of a Down this Saturday...This should be a good concert...I hope.

Det_Nosnip 04-26-2005 02:11 PM

I was a big fan of them in high school, and I don't particularly dislike them now. New album might be interesting. :)

Sad But True 04-26-2005 02:13 PM

Did anyone else find Steal This Album quite dissappointing?

cooter666 04-26-2005 02:14 PM

SOAD are definitly my fav band, imo each musician is original and unique, also shavo is an unreal bassist and serj is the best vocalist ever..
Did anyone else find Steal This Album quite dissappointing?
Sad But True 04-26-2005 02:16 PM

Ye, it was basically a collection of B sides, but not very good ones.
Did anyone else find Steal This Album quite dissappointing?
I found the songs I liked on it I liked better then any of the songs Toxic City, the problem was that that was only two or three songs.

syous 04-26-2005 03:02 PM
its not that its hard stuff, its the stuff he comes up with. i dont play bass either,i just think he is good
shavo doesn't even come up with the stuff. daron is the one that writes the guitar parts/ bass parts/ vocals. he also has a great influence on how the drum parts for the song are written. daron himself said he wanted to be a drummer, and that he has a drummers mindset.

Hui_LP 04-26-2005 03:05 PM

SOAD majorly kicks ***. That be, I'm pretty much looking forward to the new album.
Did anyone else find Steal This Album quite dissappointing?
i didnt. its probably my least favorite but im not at all disapointed. some of my favorite soad songs are on that one: mr.jack, highway song, ego brain, streamline

TojesDolan 04-26-2005 04:12 PM
Ye, it was basically a collection of B sides, but not very good ones.
Yes it was a bod choice of B-sides. I expected other songs like snowblind, marmalade (this one is amazing) marijuana in your brain (lol), the metro... But they chose those other songs. I liked it anyway. I hope both albums result better :(
