Bass Strings with awsome Bass!
 

Been reading alot of reviews of bass strings recently. But i cant find one that has "awsome bass" as i like to describe it. I was going to get some Rotosounds, but some reviews say they have "terrible" bass. and thats not what i want. Can anyone suggest some brand name bass strings with some great, low, melow bass?

Erm.... FENDER STRINGS....

Flatwounds.

For roundwounds, Rotosounds are pretty good. I've also had good luck with GHS Boomers in the past. Ask at your shop. Usually there are people there who have played what the shop is selling. Good luck. :thumb:

ic, so can anyone suggest any kind of flatwound strings for my bass? or have any recommendations?

btw: what kinda strings did they use back in the day. i was just watching the movie [dont hate me for this] Grease, and the dance scene in that had some killer bass. Dont know much specifics of when that was , but if anyone else has seen the movie could they say the time period, and perhaps somone could say what kinda strings they used then.

Fender Flatwounds, Fender Tapewounds, Rotosound Jazz 77's

And "back in the day" they used flatwounds, if I'm correct.

i use GHS presicion steel flats.
they're pretty good. thumpy enough to thump your sox off, but still twangy and brite enough for tapping and some slapping.

I use some groundwounds (yes, [B]G[/B]roundwounds) on my fretless, and they are really bassy, just ask some forumites who've heard me play them.

and what exactly are groundwounds? ground down roundwounds?

so do they end up like flats?
or are they very different?

Like flats that don't stick to your fingers. They put a bit more wear on the fingerboard, I assume. I just realized they were groundwounds the other day, I'd thought they were flats until I played real flats.

does anyone have a recording of them play with flatwound strings?
and does anyone have a recording of somone playing with roundwound strings so i can make a better comparison.

Terrible recording quality though.

There was a good article in a recent issue of Bass Player where they tested a bunch of different strings... flatwounds, roundwounds... all kinds of strings... You should check this issue out....

ic, i think i will check that out next time i hit borders.

Are their any noticable differences between how the two different strings [roundwound, flatwound] feel? A couple months back this one dude broke my estring and replaced it with this very smooth string that almsot stuck to my fingers. My other strings, were very rough with small grooves on them.

Also are there any roundwound strings that have great bass?

Flatwounds good for slap? are you insane?

A decent slap tone relies on the treble punch, with flat wounds you get a dull pow sound

if you want a meaty sound, nickle roundwounds with a bigger gauge

i really like the sound of a flatwound slap, to me it just sounds good, but only on a fretless (yes i slap on my fretless). also if you are lookig for flats check out fender tapewounds(flats with a covering over them so they are a little smoother.)

123 to fender strings being great strings...although i would recommend flats
