Musician Forums Lyrical Challenge Championship 2004
Musician Forums Lyrical Challenge Championship 2004

This challenge is open to anyone who has participated in a challenge in the past year. It sort of names the ruler of the forums for the past year. It’s going to be in the form of a single elimination tournament. In the first week of December everyone writes a song based on a challenge word (see Rule 2) and the one song they write is used for every round of the tournament. The ladder gives byes and is pretty simple (see Rule 3). The winner will be declared by the new year.

Rule 1: Qualifying – Qualifying will be based off of participation. You have to have done one challenge in the year 2004, which really isn’t to tough. Then you must be in challenge ??. The top 8 of that challenge who haven’t already received byes (see Rule 3) will be admitted into a ladder system based on their ranking.

Rule 2: Choosing the Word – The top four winners of the year (in quantity of challenges won) may each choose a word. Then in the week or so before the challenge starts, we will make a poll and anyone can vote for the preferred word. The winning word will be the ONE word that everyone uses for the challenge.

Rule 3: The Ladder – The top four winners of the year also receive first round byes. The ladder will have 8 first round matches between the top 8 non bye kids in challenge ??. It will be the standard 1 vs 8, 4 vs 5 3 vs 6, and 7 vs 2. The winner of the first match (1vs8) fights the top seeded writer who had a first round bye. The winner of match 2 (4vs5) battles the 4th seeded bye player. The winner of match 3 plays the 3rd seeded bye person. The winner of the last first round match plays the #2 seeded bye person. The forums suck at spacing so I’ll try to make this look normal.

First Round
------------Quarterfinals
--------------------------Semifinals
--------------------------------------Finals

--------Bye-------#1----|
#1________ W |__Winner__
#8________|----------|

#4________ W |
#5________|----------|__Winner__|__Finalist
--------Bye-------#4----|

--------Bye-------#3----|
#3________ W |__Winner__|__Finalist
#6________|----------|

#7________ W |
#2________|----------|__Winner__
--------Bye-------#2----|

Just basic single elimination style! All submission will be in one big thread that is headed by a post that make who is fighting who very very clear.

Rule 4: Voting – This really sucked to think up. So many people had great constructive ways to vote and it is really complicated. Voting will work as follows. There will be a separate thread for each round of the challenge (First Round, Quarterfinals, Semifinals, Finals) and obviously as people are knocked out of the tournament it will get easier to vote and the bye system awards those who have done well in the year and also makes it so there aren’t so many people to vote for in one week. Everyone in the challenge must vote for the winner of each match and give a decent explanation/crit about why they voted the way did. Hopefully, this will eliminate biases because people will have to come up with solid reasons or else their vote will be subjectively discounted by the tallyer. Pretty much anyone who just says oh this guy sucks so I vote against him will have their votes discounted. The voting is NOT based on polls because people can create new SNs and vote for themselves repeatedly. Newbs are not allowed to vote and like participating in this challenge, one must have entered in one challenge during 2004 to be allowed to vote.
Are we doing it this year?

SubtleDagger 11-20-2004 12:06 PM

I thought it was complete hell last time, but if you want to, it's fine.

ATC 11-20-2004 02:29 PM

lets do it but can we integrate the threads/delete old voting threads once we go higher? championship, i mean.

pixiesfanyo 11-20-2004 02:39 PM

I don't care. I was just suggesting, I don't plan on organizing.

kornedbeef 11-23-2004 02:20 PM

That's good idea.

d0ped0g 11-24-2004 06:52 AM

i'll try and write a real ****ed up song for u guys... when do the songs hav to b done by?
i only hav to write 1 for the whole comp right?

jurialmunkey 12-11-2004 05:29 PM

I think its a good idea even though it is a pain in the arse to organise. And it kinda gets messy...

Maybe I'm doing a backflip on my opinion of it from last time.. I can't even remember. Am I?

I'm up for it this time around... Theres no harm in giving it a go right?

jurialmunkey 12-11-2004 07:20 PM

yeah... I think i was against it becoz it was going to be messy and seemed like it was all too complicated... I think it can run smoother this time though. Hopefully. Well just have to see.

smiffsta 12-14-2004 06:54 AM

how about there should be no championship
okay some ppl might suck *** at writing,
but songs are a form of expression and eliminating someone is as bad as saying ur song dont mean sh*t
so be nice!

smiffsta 12-14-2004 06:55 AM

also those who r good at writing should use their skills in the music industry where its worth it

Permanent Solution 12-14-2004 11:47 AM

Agreed. I post here to get feedback on what I write, I write the songs for me though, if it bothers you to have your piece trashed stay out of S&L please. :)

So is this going to happen, or no...and when if so, I would like to enter but won't be back frequently over break, but I'll check back more often if this is gonna happen so I don't miss it.

SubtleDagger 12-14-2004 02:42 PM

Who are you talking to?

Sarcasm Princess 12-14-2004 05:39 PM

So lets do this thing...

chips88 12-17-2004 01:59 PM

I have a feeling I am going to get killed, but oh well, sounds like fun.

SubtleDagger 12-17-2004 02:51 PM

subtle for god!!

are we doing this?

cytoplasmicglob 12-20-2004 12:55 PM

hey, I tried to participate last year...but I didn't do it right. A big flaw from last year was the fact that they had to place in the previous challenge. The fact that I didn't sorta left me out. I think that this time it should be open to anyone.
