[b]Ear Trainer 1.0[/b]
I ran across this little download while looking for mixing downloads. It is a program designed to train your ear so that you will be able to recognize notes.... like perfect pitch. It's FREE, so it's definately worth a look-see. :)

This is another ear training program that Rowan University uses for its 4 semesters of Aural Theory. It isn't free. But if you are serious about music training, and are thinking of going off to college for music, you really should invest in this. It'll give you a head start in music theory. It doesn't train you to identify pitches like the one above, it trains you to be able to hear intervals, scale types, and chord types. It trains you to be able to do melodic dictation (thats were you are given a starting note, a melody is played, and you are to write down the melody..... only using your ear and your head). There is also harmonic dictation.. which is the same as melodic dictation, except you are transcribing chord progressions. And their new version, which is to be out this summer, includes Rhythmic dictation.

The website includes mini downloadable demos.

I tripped over this also while looking at mixing software. It's a program designed by an experienced audio engineer to help you with recording your own music and mixing. It is FREE and also worth a look.

[b]Transkriber[/b]
This is a program that I used when I am transcribing an incredibly difficult or fast bass line, etc. This program slows the music down, or speeds it up, without changing the pitch. It has bass boost, and lead/vocal elimination. Also imports mp3's and has ripping capabilities, among other features.

uhm i want that last one but it isnt free and the site seems to be dead does anyone have a version of that thats free and works?

Link works for me. No it's not free, but there are probably a few programs that will speed up / slow down music (without effecting pitch) at download.com. I'm sure there are some other free programs out there as well.

The Tablature 2.1 is no longer available. Not to worry I'll just go and download powertab. Just thought I'd point it out.

There's a program called Audacity that is an mp3 editing tool. You can use it to change speeds without changing pitch. It's a great little program, I use it quite a bit.

There is a program called acoustica... something or other.. I used it temporarily before I got Cool Edit. It was pretty decent.. I know it is on download.com

jamie, download a use a crack on cool edit. Its a great multi track recording software.

I bet most of you know band-in-a-box. It's great to pratice with this fictive band on your computer. Just type in/choose genre, tempo, instruments, beat, chords and so on..
I don't have band-in-a-box since it's not free, and it is not really cheap as far as i remember. My question is, do any of you know a free program alike band-in-a-box?

I'm using MacGamut 2003 in my aural skills class, and it's quite good. :thumb:

It will offer something for everyone, from the fledgling to the virtuoso.

You can download an other program that slows your music if you want to practice a difficult song it is called [URL=http://www.seventhstring.com/]transcribe![/URL].
It is free and very useful.

I recommend it, it's really easy to use, and pretty good to practice with.

Edit: Don't be scared off by the intro page saying it's for dance music only. I've actually used this very program with a heavy indie rock band and it worked like a charm. Live and in the studio.

plug your bass into your computer and use it as a distortion pedal....its good if you plug your bass into the computer and then use the line out port to go into your bass amp as to not wreck your pc speakers. Does anyone else know of a free virtual processer thingy like this?
