Classic Rock
ok ok, i admit it, i'm a classic rock nut. i love led zeppelin, the beatles, the who, eric clapton, the doors, and so on. most of the bands i listen to broke up years before i was born. at 17, nearly every song on my playlist is older than me. but is it just my imagination, or is classic rock experiencing sort of a revival. i am running into an increasing number of classic rock fans my age. at my school (an all boys high school), the school newspaper took a poll of everyone's favorite genre and band. led zeppeling got 5th and the beatles got 6th, behind that rap crap. classic rock made up a large percent of ppls favorite genre. is this just by me, or are other ppl noticing this too?
This is the thread for general classic rock discussion. |
I have always been a classic rock fan. The first band I really liked was Led Zeppelin. From there I started to get into Rush, the Who, Van Halen, Pink Floyd, Boston and Cream. Now I'm more into progressive metal, but I still listen to classic rock from time to time.

yea i was worried that was just my imagination. o i just discovered a great classic rock band by the name of The Moody Blues. now they are good. check out "Nights in White Satin," "Tuesday Afternoon," "Ride my SeeSaw," and "I'm just a singer (in a rock and roll band)."

 I love the Moody Blues! |
And yeah, classic rock is becoming extremely popular among teenagers.
Yep. Then again so is Good Charlotte :(. Some teenagers are more cool than others I guess. |

Yeah. If you look at any Van Halen, The Who or Zeppelin (my person 3 favorite bands) songs they are all much better than that one. And the guitar solos are better too. |
Jethro Tull, Blue Oyster Cult, Boston, Husker Du are also all great ones :) but Rush is still my fav.
|
well i think the best band ever was the Beatles. they had more good songs than any other band i've ever listened to. plus all the songs sounded different. no two beatles songs sounded the same. and while their songs were maybe not on the same level as say Baba O'Reily, Won't Get Fooled Again, or Stairway, they still outdo the other bands by sheer number of good songs. i would love to see another band with the kind of talent they had. maybe that's what the music industry needs to get off this rap crap...
|
I love classic rock...it's practically all I listen too...I have always been a classic rock fan...I think mainly because when I was a little girl, I would listen to what my dad was listening to...
I like stuff like... The Who The Guess Who The Doors Deep Purple The Eagles Cream Creedance Clearwater Revival Pink Floyd The Beatles Bob Dylan WAR The Rollingstones and much more |
I cant really judge The Darkness's skill because that **** video always distracts me. It's so annoying and obnoxious IMO.
|
Dangit I forgot cream an Eric Clapton on my list. Oh well, if people call it classic rock I like it :thumb:.
|
I've noticed kids only liking popular and well known Classic Rock bands, like Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, ect...
They missout on some of the greatest lesser known Classic rock bands. Like The Byrds, or Buffalo Springfield, Big Brother and Holding Company, The Velvet Underground, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, Van Morrison, ect. Most of those bands were pretty big in their day, but the kids these days aren't looking for those bands. Usually, they are looking for the heavier, or louder types, but that's only the kids I know. |
The doors are great.
|
Yet again I forgot imporant bands like Buffalo Springfield and Neil young. I love Neil young. I seem to forget everything that I really like until somebody reminds me :(
|
And of course there are more hugely popular Classic Rock bands that should be known forever. Like, The Who (My favorite). They make music like no other. Each member was fabulous, all craftman. Or The Grateful Dead, who defined a generation, and started a long line of San Fransico bands. Or Crosby, Stills Nash, and Young. Who in many ways were the American, more talented Beatles. They had it all. For most Classic rock listens, that band is usually over looked, and The Grateful Dead.
I recomend all Classic Rock listeners to listen to these lesser known Classic Rock bands Buffalo Springfield, The Byrds, The Hollies, Blind Faith, Big Bro and Holding Company, The Mother of Invention, The Lovin' Spoonful, ect. There is just to much to name. |
i love:
Ac Dc Creedence clearwater revival Pink Floyd (just got thier best of CD its awesome!) Tubular bells!!!! The beatles I dont think there will ever be a band as good as the beatles because they had three songwriters who could have all easily been Bigger than anything before but lucky for them they were all in the same band. i dont think as much talent could be packed into one band nowadays. Notice on the later albums they all started to explore in thier own directions but they still made **** good songs. |
Would ac/dc be counted as classic rock? They are one of my favorite bands but I have always thought that they are just plain rock.

Yea, Buffalo Springfield are like no other. I think it is odd how so many people would say that their favorite member of C,S,N,Y, or Buffalo Springfield is Neil Young. He didn't really write that many songs, but he did play some good guitaring playing. But so many people over look the genius Stephen Stills. Who wrote almost all of the B.S songs, and was the driving force behind C,S,N,Y. He is also one of the greatest acoustic and slide guitarists ever. I try to blab and give appreciation Stills as much as I can. |
i consider the beatles rock n roll, not really hard rock...nonetheless, a great band though.
|
wooh I love classic rock!
I like almost all the bands stated before.. wait.. Is CCR even mentioned  |
Classic rock is by far my favourite genre
Of course you've got to love the big names, zeppelin, the who, hendrix, clapton, floyd, beatles, doors. But i find often it's no good to talk to people about classic rock that only know those bands, unless to introduce them to more. Quite simply because even when talking about those bands they only seem to know the popular songs (stairway always comes up with these types of people). It's alot more fun to talk with people who know, cnsy, the greatful dead, cat stevens, BTO, the guess who, derek and the dominoes, cream, the yardbirds, the eagles, lynyrd skynyrd, jefferson airplane, tull, deep purple, Steppenwolfe, the band, lighthouse, band of gypsies. People that know the members names and all the bands albums, how the band started etc etc... But ya that was sort of a pointless paragraph, yes i have noticed sort of a revival, and i am also much younger than 99% of the songs i listen too. All of my really close friends listen to classic rock and all my band plays is classic rock. But ofcourse once you get into a larger group of friends you start seeing more rap, hip hop etc. But i do think it's makeing a come back, i'd like to see some new classic rock (as contradictory as that may sound). |

I recomend all Classic Rock listeners to listen to these lesser known Classic Rock bands ... The Hollies....
YES! The hollies are awesome! i listen to them alot! Oh I see that earlier this thread ccr was mentioned! :thumb: |
Rock n roll and classic rock are pretty much the same thing. At least I think they are anyway...
id call rock n roll things like the beatles, elvis, and at times the rolling stones. hard rock is more like aerosmith, led zeppelin, etc... |
Yeah .. I find myself listening to more and more classic rock...besides Dream Theater. I can't get "Layla" by Eric Clapton outta my head. And "Flirtin' With Disaster" by Molly Hatchet is awesome. Zeppelin is wicked too.
|
^^^
check out the songs "gator country" and "the edge of sundown" by Molly Hatchet!!!! and Clapton's prime was with Cream...oh how i love Cream!! |
How about the Cure? What exactally are they? could they be called classic rock?
